Wilson wins over weather in MJT TaylorMade Championship West at Morgan Creek

The MJT TaylorMade Championship (West) at Morgan Creek Golf Club in Surrey, BC, a highly sought-after major event on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, hosted a full field of 112 golfers over the Masters weekend. TaylorMade Golf’s top treatment of the players helped mitigate the difficult weather endured, as rain and wind each day made scoring extremely tough.

Fabulous TaylorMade tee gifts and prizes were part of the tournament, as well as special Skills Challenge, lunch and refreshments for all participants, and a random draw for a limited edition Masters Golf Bag which was won by Cadence Ko of Richmond, BC.

“The kids appreciated the support by TaylorMade Golf,” said Chris Hood, BC Tournament Director.  “Their on-site presence was a nice addition as it was a very challenging weekend weather-wise and we were glad that we got in all 36 holes.”

Matthew Wilson, 16, of Nanaimo, BC, fired excellent rounds of 70,71 and YanLing (Elaine) Liu, 15, of Vancouver, BC, won a playoff, awarding Overall Low Boy and Girl Champion honours to each respectively. Low qualifiers in relation to rating were short-listed for the IMG Junior World Golf Championship in San Diego, California, this July (see results below) while Wilson also qualified directly for the MJT Future Stars presented by ATB at Northern Bear Golf Club in Sherwood Park, Alberta, on June 23-24.

Results and quotes from the top finishers are noted below. PLYR Closest to the Pin, TaylorMade Long Drive and Booster Juice BounceBack Awards winners are posted on the MJT website here.

The next stop on Canada’s number one-played Junior Golf Tour is the wait-listed MJT G&G Brands Classic at GreenTee Country Club in Langley, BC, on April 22-23. For more information, please see www.maplejt.com.
