Hole-in-one for Franklin, Brezovski wins playoff, Fisher goes low in MJT Ford Series at Stony Plain

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) hosted the MJT Ford Series this past weekend at Stony Plain Golf Course, in Stony Plain, Alberta, June 18-19, 2022, where results were highlighted by a hole-in-one, a playoff and fine scores.

The MJT Ford Series for 80 competitive young golfers was preceded by a free clinic to introduce kids in the community to the game, sponsored by Zender Ford.

Kye Fisher, 17, of Leduc, AB, backed up an excellent round one performance (69) with another solid round (73) to top the podium in Junior boys and claim the low overall boys title.

A two-hole playoff was needed in the MJT Girls 15-19 division, won by Belle Brezovski, 17, of St Albert, AB, who managed to hold off Kalee Seto, 16, of Edmonton after both girld tied for the lead with scores of 77-76 (153).

Ryan Garbutt, 15, of Edmonton, battled it out in the MJT Juvenile Boys division in a tight race for title, edging a one stroke victory with scores of 77-75 (152).

The MJT Bantam Boys division witnessed a hole-in-one on day two by Aricin Franklin, 13, of Saskatoon, SK, on hole seven - unfortunately not on the Zender Ford-sponsored hole to win a new car!

Franklin placed second in his division with scores of 72-76 (148); the winner by four strokes was Brae Rogalczyk, 14, of Innisfail, AB, who shot a great overall even par score (71-73-144)

Rhea Deo, 12, of Edmonton, AB, went wire to wire to claim the MJT Girls U15 title (81-80=161).

Lucas Sturgeon, 12, of Saskatoon, SK, continued his dominant play on the MJT, claiming the MJT Peewee boys title by seven strokes (77-71=148).

I was really happy to see the progress in my game since last year in competition. Making birdie on hole 11 both days really kept my rounds going. The consistency I showed by making all 4’s on the front 9 of the final round nice to see too. I try my best to stay in the moment and focus on the shot I need to execute that is in front of me if the game isn’t going as planned.”

About the MJT: The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour is Canada’s number one-played Junior Golf Tour as well as the only national junior tour run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the ‘Road to College Golf’ in Canada.
