Miner, Nachtigall tie for low overall in MJT Manitoba Series at St. Boniface

Winnipeg, MB – (July 29, 2020) – The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s second stop on the 2020 Manitoba schedule was in Winnipeg from July 27 to 28, where junior golfers competed under new player health and safety protocols in the MJT Manitoba Series at St. Boniface Golf Club.

The MJT Junior Boys Division saw a packed leaderboard after the first day with five players sitting within three shots of each other. Emerging on top after coming back from a one-shot deficit was Brandon, MB, golfer Evan Nachtigall, 19, who fired 81 and 77 (158). “It was a solid couple of days of putting,” commented Nachtigall. “I don’t think I missed anything inside of six feet.” Nachtigall tied for the Low Overall Boys score for the event.

In the MJT Juvenile Boys Division, 15-year old Scott Miner of Winnipeg tied with Nachtigall for the Low Overall Boys score after firing scores of 83 and 75 (158). “I felt very comfortable hitting the shots I needed to,” commented Miner, who attributed some of his win to his home course knowledge. “It feels great to have a win under my belt.” 16-year old Adam Ingram of West St. Paul, MB, finished just one stroke back in the runner-up position with scores of 82 and 77 (159).

Austin Boge, 14, competed the comeback in the MJT Bantam Boys Division, eliminating a five-shot deficit after the first day. The Winnipeg resident carded rounds of 83 and 79 (162) to win the Hoselton trophy by a single shot. “I stayed double-bogey free,” mentioned Boge, who had a plan to keep the big numbers off the scorecard. “I knew that if I could do that, I’d have a chance.” Kaleb Lambert, 14, of Lorette West, MB, finished the division in second place, shooting scores of 81 and 82 (163).

Taking home the title in the MJT Peewee Boys Division was 12-year old Ryan Tuck, of Winnipeg. Tuck recorded scores of 83 and 80 (163) to win in convincing fashion. “I tried to hit lots of fairways and greens and stay positive,” commented Tuck, after his win. “It feels good to get the trophy!”

Swan River, MB, golfer Crystal Zamzow picked up her third career MJT victory in the MJT Girls U15 Division. The 14-year old player carded rounds of 90 and 86 (176) and stated, “I putted pretty well on some difficult greens.” This was Zamzow’s third win in her last five starts on the MJT since 2019.

Winnipeg golfer Armaan Dhillon, 15, fired rounds of 97 and 91 (188) to win the MJT Girls 15-19 Division. Her performance at St. Boniface Golf Club marked her first MJT win this season. “I took my time on the fairway and over my putts,” commented Dhillon. “That got me a long way in the event.”

Full results from the event can be viewed here. The next stop in the province is the MJT Manitoba Series at Winkler Centennial Golf Club in Winkler on August 4 and 5. Registration is online at www.maplejt.com.
