Walker, Yazdani, Yao and Yang take MJT Mini Tour titles at The Fox

Granton, ON - July 24, 2017 –  The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour ran a Mini Tour stop at The Fox Golf Club in Granton, ON, July 22, where players aged 12 and under competed for Boys and Girls titles in Atom (10 years and under) and Peewee (11 to 12 years), as well as for invitations for each division winner to the MJT Mini Tour National Championship presented by Ford at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Club in Tsawwassen, BC, August 24 and 25.

Jeremiah Walker, 10, of Burlington, ON, elected to play up a division in MJT Peewee Boys 11-12, and ran away with the win after firing 83. Walker, who cited ‘luck’ as the best thing about his game, was using the event to practice for his upcoming appearance in the US Kids World Championship in Pinehurst, NC.

In MJT Peewee Girls, the winner was 12 year-old Kathy Yao of Oakville, ON, who shot 89 to edge both Vanessa Ardovini, 12, of Windsor, ON, and Jamie Roslyn Camero, 11, of Dubai, UAE, by one stroke. Yao said afterwards, “I hit my driver very well and I’m happy about winning, but I have room for improvement.”

Eight-year-old Gabriel Yazdani of London, ON, shot 90 from the Atom Boys yardage for a four stroke victory over Grayson Vanderkooy, 8, also of London, in the MJT Atom Boys division, and cited his ‘chipping in on 18’ as his tournament highlight.

And finally in MJT Atom Girls, the winner was Sarah Yang, 10, of Oakville, ON, after she carded a solid 88 to beat runner-up Gracie McKee, 7, also of Oakville. “I’m very happy because this is my first time winning,” said Yang. “I hit a lot of good iron shots and that helped me make a lot of good scores.”

Closest to the Pin and Long Drive prizes were also awarded and results can be viewed online.

The last stop on the MJT Mini Tour Series in the province is at Orangeville Golf Club in Orangeville on August 19, just prior to the MJT Mini Tour National Championship presented by Ford at Tsawwassen Springs Golf in Tsawwassen, BC, August 24 and 25.
