Boddy shoots even-par for MJT Juvenile title at Copetown Woods

Copetown, ON – (August 14, 2017) – On August 12 and 13, the Maple Leaf Junior Tour (MJT) held the MJT Ontario Series at Copetown Woods Golf Club in Copetown, ON, where the weather was finally perfect for competitors vying for titles in seven divisions as well as a direct exemption into the MJT Boston Pizza National Championship presented by TaylorMade-adidas in Orlando, FLA, this November.

Low Overall from the blue tees was Jayden Boddy, 16, of Dorchester, ON, who shot 70,74 (144) to win the MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 title by six strokes over Zachary Hart, 15, of New Hamburg, ON. Boddy, who directly qualifies for the MJT National Championship as a result, said “It feels great to win my first MJT event! I’ve been close a number of times, but to finally get the win feels very rewarding.”

Fantastic scores off the white tees of 70,71 (141) from 13-year-old Ethan Irvine, 13, of Ancaster, ON, won him the MJT Bantam Boys 13-14 title by six strokes over Graem Costigan, 14, of Cambridge, ON. Irvine said of his win, “I feel really proud of myself that I not only won the tournament, but beat some very good players and shot the two best rounds of my life.” When asked about the course, Irvine responded by saying, “I really liked the course layout and the greens were nice and soft. Plus, the fairways were really easy to make a divot.”

The MJT Junior Boys 17-18 winner was Xavier Ayora, 17, of Kitchener, ON (78,72=150), who held off Luc Gagnon, 18, of Oro-Medonte, ON, for a six-stroke victory. “It feels good to win today because I struggled a bit yesterday at the end of the round,” Ayora said afterwards.

Bogota, Colombia’s Manuela Rincon, 15, won the MJT Girls 15-19 division by two strokes over Ashley Chow, 15, of North York, ON. Rincon stated, “It feels very good to get the win, because I’ve been working to lower my scores. I finally did it, and I won, so I am very happy.”
