Euna Han blitzes field in MJT Lindsay Kenney Classic

Vancouver, B.C. (May 8, 2017) – 14-year-old Euna Han of Coquitlam, BC, fired 65,66 to highlight the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Lindsay Kenney Classic at Pagoda Ridge Golf Course in Langley, BC, May 6 and 7, where close to 80 juniors were vying for titles in seven divisions as well as for age-specific qualifying spots in the IMG Academy Junior World Championships in San Diego this July.

Lindsay Kenney LLP, a Tournament Sponsor of the MJT for the past 19 years, has offices in Langley and Vancouver, and supported this successful event once again. Winners of each division are highlighted below, and recipients of the PLYR Long Drive, PLYR Closest-to-the-Pin and Golf Town Performance Awards are posted online on the LK Law Classic Results page.

MJT Girls U15: Euna Han scorched the Pagoda Ridge layout with rounds of 65,66 = 131 for a 17 stroke victory among MJT Girls U15 over Emma Yang, 14, of Langley. Han said, “I am excited, I’m hoping to go to the IMG Academy Junior Worlds in San Diego.” She feels the MJT has, “lots of awesome prizes, many of my friends are playing, and the staff are great.”

MJT Girls 15-18: Susan Xiao, 15, of Surrey, BC notched her third MJT Girls 15-18 title in three tries on the Maple Leaf Junior Tour so far this season, posting outstanding rounds of 71,69 = 140 for an eight stroke victory in her division. Xiao said, ‘she felt honored to win this tournament, her putting and mental game were both the keys for the win.’ She went on to say that the course was in wonderful condition, the greens were smooth, and the fairways were really nice.

MJT Peewee Boys: Justin Bjornson, 11, of Surrey, won for the second week in a row on the MJT, following up a win the previous weekend at Chilliwack Golf Club. Justin played consistent golf all weekend, and finished with a total score of 143 (71,72), besting William Tu, 11, of Vancouver, BC, by 10 strokes for the Peewee Boys Hoselton trophy.

MJT Bantam Boys 13-14: Bailey Bjornson, 13, of Surrey, kept up with his brother and also won for the second week in a row, capturing the MJT Bantam Boys Hoselton trophy and saying he ‘played well both days, and has been working really hard on his game.’ “I drove the ball well, and my wedge game was dialed in!” he added.

MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16: Michael Crisologo, 16, of Richmond, BC, shot one of the rounds of the day with a 69 on day two (74-69=143), enough to earn a two stroke win over William Tindle, 15 of Coquitlam, BC, in MJT Juvenile Boys.

MJT Junior Boys 17-18: Samuel Su, 17, of Surrey, was consistent all weekend and fired 71,70 = 141 to claim the Hoselton trophy for MJT Junior Boys over Fritz Lo of Richmond, BC, who was seven strokes back. Su said he felt ‘very blessed’ to be able to get the win.

MJT Collegiate Men 19-23: It was a long time coming for Tyler LeClair, 20 of North Vancouver, BC, as he has finished runner up five times on the MJT. Despite some nagging injuries on the course, LeClair shot 74,75 = 149 for the win in the new MJT Collegiate division. “My iron play was the standout today, and helped balance out some poor drives. It got pretty saucy out there once I started putting shots in close.”

The following players have been short-listed for a position at the IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championship at Torrey Pines GC from July 10 to 14 in San Diego, California: Justin Bjornson , Lauren Kim,  Bailey Bjornson, Euna Han, Emma Yang, Michael Crisologo and Susan Xiao.
