DeMarco low overall at MJT Roseland stop; Four shortlisted for IMG Academy Junior World Championships

Windsor, ON – (May 30, 2016) - Thomas DeMarco, 19, of LaSalle, ON, won Low Overall and the MJT Junior Boys title in Windsor, ON, this past weekend, after he shot stellar scores of 73, 73 (146) in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s MJT Ontario Series at Roseland Golf and Curling Club on May 28th and 29th, where players were competing for titles in six divisions plus the chance to be shortlisted for the IMG Academy Junior World Championships in San Diego, CA, this July.

Four strokes behind DeMarco was Riley Conners, 19, of Listowel, ON (75, 75=150) and rounding out the podium to take third place in this division was Jarrod Smith, 18, also of LaSalle (77, 75=152).          

In the MJT Juvenile Boys division, Myles Thiessen, 15, of Kingsville, ON (75, 75=150) captured first place.  Runner up was Curtis Hughes, 16, of Lakeshore, ON, who carded 76, 77 (153) and a close third was Jack Ferguson, 16, of St. Thomas, ON, with a score of 77, 77 (154).

Playing up a division was Shawn Sehra, 12, of Windsor, who took the MJT Bantam Boys winner’s trophy after shooting 73, 78 (151).  Coming in second was Bennett Ruby, 14, of Waterloo, ON (78, 74=152), and following Ruby in third spot was Spencer Higginbottom, 13, of Tecumseh, ON, who shot 75, 80 (155).

The MJT Peewee Boys title went to Marcus Lee, 10, who travelled up from Troy, MI, and made the trip worth his while to win with his scores of 99, 94 (193). Michael Antal, 12, of Windsor, placed second and nine-year-old Steven Desantis, 9, of Amherstburg, ON, came in third.

Hailey Katona, 14, of Tilbury, ON, playing up a division as well, shot rock-solid scores of 75, 76 (151) to wrap up first place in the MJT Girls 15-19. Brooke MacKinnon, 16, of Chatham, ON, finished 77, 83 (160) as the runner-up, and third place finisher was Shannon Coffey, 15, of Windsor, ON (89, 83=172).

In the younger MJT Girls U15 division, Kyra Vandervoort, 14, of Kitchener, ON, won with scores of 93, 94 (187) and Vanessa Ardovini, 11, of Windsor, came in second.

The eligible members shortlisted for age-specific spots in the Junior World Championship were Thiessen, Sehra, Ardovini and Katona; finalists will be announced once qualifying has completed across the country. In addition, a dozen prizes were awarded to Longball Long Drive, MJT Closest-to-the-Pin and Golf Town Comeback Winners in the tournament whose names are all listed on the tournament page on the MJT website.
