Wallin low overall; Dudas wins MJT Peewee Playoff in P.A.

Prince Albert, SK – (July 28, 2015) – The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour recently stopped in Prince Albert, SK, to hold the MJT–Golf Saskatchewan Order of Merit (OOM) Series at Cooke Municipal Golf Course on July 26th and 27th, where junior golfers competed for titles in six divisions as well as the chance to qualify for the MJT Indian Wells International Players Championship in Palm Springs, CA, and the North American Junior Amateur in Phoenix, AZ.

A packed MJT Juvenile Boys division yielded a clear winner in Tayden Wallin, 16, of Humboldt, SK, who closed with a strong 71 to come away with his division title and low overall for the tournament (75-71=146). “My highlight was hitting it to two feet on hole 17,” he said. “I played to gain experience and confidence and it feels great to know that I can compete with all the other golfers.” Kyle Schneider, 16, of Prince Albert, (78, 76=154) and Andrew Campbell, 15, of Saskatoon, SK (79, 77=156) rounded out the top three in the division.

The MJT Junior Boys champion was 18-year-old Eric Nielsen of Saskatoon, SK, who triumphed over fellow Saskatoon native Jordan Unger by seven strokes with a two day score of 73-78 (151). “I had a lot of luck with clutch putts at the right times,” said Nielsen. “Highlights for me were both on 18 when I made a 40 foot putt for birdie one day and flopped a seven iron over the trees to 20 feet the other. It feels great to finally put (a win) together after a few near misses earlier this year.”

Another Saskatoon resident, Cole Nagy, 13, took home the MJT Bantam Boys title in his first MJT win, shooting 78-80 (158) to win by just one stroke over MJT veteran Steven Duchsher, 14, also of Saskatoon.

There was a tie for the lead in the MJT Peewee Boys division at 157 total score between Jason Dudas, 12, from Estevan, SK, and Richard Dou, 12, of Calgary, AB, with the trophy decided in a playoff won by Dudas.

Keanna Winterhalt, 14, from Lloydminster, AB, shot 99-114 and won her first MJT Girls U15 division title by nine strokes over runner-up Sophie Pasitney, 13, of St. Paul, AB. Sydney Lautenslager, 16, of Regina, SK, was the sole competitor for Girls 15-19 and shot 96-111.
