Mandur Low Overall in MJT Lindsay Kenney Classic Six shortlisted for IMG Academy Junior World Championships

LANGLEY, B.C. – (April 27, 2015) – After pitching in for an eagle on the 18th hole, Tristan Mandur, 16, of Mill Bay, BC, fired an outstanding four-under-par final round of 68 to win Low Overall and the Juvenile Boys 15-16 title in the MJT Lindsay Kenney Classic at Pagoda Ridge Golf Course in Langley this past weekend.

“I’m very happy and proud to win,” said Mandur, who carded 73-68 (141) during the two day tournament on April 25th and 26th to win his division by five shots, securing a shortlisted spot for the IMG Academy Junior World Championships in San Diego, CA, this July.

The other players to be shortlisted for age specific spots in the Junior Worlds included Victoria Liu, 12, of Vancouver, BC, Susan Xiao, 13, of Surrey, BC, Vivian Lee, 15, of New Westminster (and the Hong Kong Golf Association), Brycen Ko, 11, of Richmond, BC, and Raymond Li, 14, of Vancouver.

Victoria Liu, who shot 75, 85 (160) to run away with the MJT Lindsay Kenney Classic Girls 14 and under title, commented, “The first day I played really well – especially my short game. The course was really long and challenging and the second day, as I am not a long driver, was really difficult. The pin placement was either at the front of the green or just behind a hazard, so my ball would either not roll up the green or it would roll over.”

It was Susan Xiao’s first MJT win as she edged Hong Kong Golf Association’s Vivian Lee by one to shoot excellent scores of 72, 74 (146) for the Lindsay Kenney Classic Girls 15-19 title. “This is a pretty long course and the greens are pretty hard, so I feel good about my win!” she said.

11-year-old Brycen Ko put together solid rounds of 77, 74 (151) to dominate the MJT Peewee Boys 12 and under division by 11 strokes, citing ‘sticking to his game plan of trying to hit greens and make putts’ as key to his success. “I tried my best,” he said.

The MJT Bantam Boys 13-14 division witnessed another dominating performance, this one by Raymond Li who shot 75, 73 (148) on a course he rated ‘10 out of 10’, winning by six strokes.

And finally in the MJT Junior Boys 17-19, Shayne LaRochelle, 19, of Coquitlam, BC, prevailed for his second win this season (72, 70=142) after a battle to the finish with Charles Thompson, 17, of Delta, BC (73, 71=144). “The course was in excellent condition,” noted LaRochelle. “I focused on each shot one at a time and it feels good to win.”

The divisional winners of the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Stefanie Silva of Surrey, Vivian Lee, Treton Clarke of Mission, BC, Dylan Bercan of Vancouver, Tristan Mandur and Jacob Hayes of Delta. Sligo Skills Competition (Closest-to-the-Pin) Winners were Emily Xu of Burnaby, Kathrine Chan of Richmond, Freddy Sun of Richmond, Keith Ng of Richmond, Khan Lee of Surrey, and Kevin Bishop of Nanaimo, BC. Golf Town Comeback Awards for best second day improvement in score went to Michelle Cha of Surrey, Kathrine Chan, Brycen Ko, Jerry Li of Vancouver, Chengkai Mai of Surrey, and Carson Arcuri of Nelson, BC.
