Kwon qualifies for North American Junior Amateur after MJT National Pines win

Barrie, ON. – (July 28, 2014) – Daniel Kwon, 18, of Etobicoke, ON, fired 76-77 (153) to win the MJT Junior Boys 17-19 title in the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s MJT Nationwide Series at National Pines Golf and Country Club in Barrie last weekend, and was the eligible qualifier for a spot in the North American Junior Amateur (NAJA) Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, this December.

Kwon won his division by three strokes over Johnathan Casciano, 17, of London, ON, who shot 78-78 (156) for the two-day tournament that ran July 26th and 27th.  Tyler Waugh, 18, also of London, scored 79-78 (157) to round out the top three in this division.

16-year old Minwoo Park of Toronto, ON, played very solid golf en route to shooting 74-78 (152) which handed him the low overall score and the MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 title. Three shots back was Nick Hofland, 16, of Ancaster, ON, who carded 80-75 (155) to finish second followed by Jordi Walker, 16, of Coniston, ON, who shot 80-80 (160) to place third in the division.

14-year old Alex Wyndham-West of King City, ON, carded 80-80 (160) to claim the MJT Bantam Boys 14 & Under title and his first win on the MJT Tour. Finishing eight shots back in the division was Parker Lee, 13, of Oro Medonte, ON, who shot 82-86 (168) followed by Jack Ferguson, 14, of St. Thomas, ON, who carded 86-85 (171) to finish in third place.

In the Girls Division, 16-year-old Ashley Omidi of Surrey, BC, claimed victory after shooting 80-82 (162).  Runner-up was 12-year old Hailey Katona of Tilbury, ON, who shot 86-82 (168), and June Gleed, 16, of Beaverton, ON, placed third with rounds of 91-84 (175).

Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition divisional winners were Melissa Gabriele of Mississauga, ON, Mitchell Borer of Ancaster, and Robert Wilkinson of Dundas, ON, while in the Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin, the division winners were Olivia Lee of Toronto, Jack Ferguson, Mackenzie Crawford of Utopia, ON, and Cooper Trew of Midhurst, ON. Golf Town Comeback Awards for best second day improvement in score went to Morgan Giles of Clarksburg, ON, Adam Jordan of Penetang, ON, Trevor Costello of Schomberg, ON, and Logan O’Hara of Mississauga.
