MJT Juniors treated to Jasper – number-one ranked Resort Course in Canada

Jasper, AB – (August 20, 2014) – Awe inspiring scenery, a golf course in fantastic shape, and clear, sunny weather made for a spectacular end to the Albertan schedule on the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour this week, as the two-day MJT Prodigy Series played out on the number one-ranked Resort Course in Canada, the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Resort in Jasper.

“I can see how Jasper Park Lodge has the number one ranking for a Resort in Canada!” said Trent Matson, MJT Tournament Director. “The scenery makes you lose focus sometimes while you are out there - it is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been.”

The August 18th and 19th event saw Chris Murray, 18, of Calgary, AB, fire low rounds of 68-71 for a 139 total, winning Low Overall and the MJT Junior Boys 17-19 title over Kolby Vold, 18, of Ponoka, AB, (73-71=144) and Nolan Renwick, 17, of Calgary (72-72=144), who finished in a tie for second place.

In the MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 division, Scott Walker, 16, of Calgary, held the hot hand shooting rounds of 68-72 (140) to win over 16-year old Justin Berget of Spruce Grove, AB, (69-76=145). Third spot went to Chris Horton, 15, of Calgary, who carded back-to-back rounds of 73 (146 total).

Ronnie Postnikoff, 14, of Medicine Hat, AB, won his second MJT Bantam Boys 14 and under title this season with excellent rounds of 71-74 (145).  Finishing second was Bradley McKeating, 13, of Calgary, who shot 72-79 for a 151 total, followed by MJT newcomer Evan Urquhart, 13, also of Calgary, who placed third with scores of 82-78 (160).

In the Girls division, Tiegan Taylor, 15, of Kelowna, BC, claimed her first win on the MJT circuit this season with two solid rounds of 78-76 (154) to edge out 14-year old Reese Martin of Brooks, AB, who carded 76-82 (158).  Taylor and Martin were tied with four to play when Taylor broke away for her victory.  Finishing in third place was Clare McMahon, 16, of Red Deer, AB, who carded 81-78 (159).                           

Winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Bradley McKeating of Calgary, Kehler Koss of Calgary, Rylan Plante-Crough of Airdrie, and Nolan Renwick of Calgary. Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin Competition winners were Kehler Koss of Calgary, Berkeley Meppem of Okotoks, AB, and Jeremy Rietze of Lacombe, AB. Golf Town Comeback Awards for best second day improvement in score went to Lauren Cheng of Calgary, Connor Ackroyd of St. Albert, AB, Campbell Laidlaw of Calgary, and Kody Krecolowich of Stony Plain, AB.
