Three tie for low overall in MJT Nationwide One Day Fall Series at Mystic

Ancaster, ON – (September 16, 2013) – Three players tied for the low overall score of 74 in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s MJT Nationwide One Day Fall Series at Mystic Golf Club in Ancaster, ON, on September 14, namely Craig Stefureak, 16, of Caledonia, ON, Josh Montgomery, 16, of Ancaster, and Ben Finlayson, 19, of Kitchener, ON.

Finlayson took the MJT Junior Boys 17-19 title by three strokes over Jeremy Ivany, 17, of London, ON, who shot 77. There was a tie for third place in the division at 78 between Ben Whiteside, 17, also of London, and Matthew Wood, 18, of Hamilton, ON.

Stefureak and Montgomery tied for the lead in the MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 division, with Stefureak claiming the title based on countback. “My ball sticking was solid all day, it never let me down,” he said. “It is always good to win an MJT event, it’s always a strong field.” Third place in the division went to Jaret Chipman, 15, of Niagara Falls, ON, who carded 76.

Among the Bantam Boys 14 and under, the top finishers were Nathan Douglas, 13, of Thornhill, ON (75), Max Redman, 14, of Cambridge, ON (79), and Jack Ferguson, 13, of St. Thomas, ON (82) who tied with Ben Greaves, 14, of Dundas, ON (82). MJT title winner, Douglas, stated, “My highlight was on hole number ten - I stuck it to a foot and saved par.  It was all my putting - I manage to get 26 putts so that really helped. It feels very good to win on such a hard golf course.  Thank you to MJT they always select good golf courses with a tough field.  It is very well run with great rewards.”

In the Girls division, MJT veteran Michelle Ruiz, 18, of Mississauga, ON, shot 75 to win by three strokes over Haley Barclay, 12, of Strathroy, ON (78). “My personal highlight was almost driving the green on 18 but just placing on the left of the green,” said Ruiz. “I was coming on 18 thinking ‘go for it, why not?’ and I just missed the green with my drive. This is my second win of the year so it feels good.” Third spot was claimed by Olivia Lee, 17, of Toronto, ON (87).

Divisional winners of the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Alexandra Garcia of Whistle Bear GC and Kitchener, Cole Tondeur of Greenhills GC and London, David Kwant of Burlington G&CC and Burlington,  and Spencer Sommers of Cayuga GC and Cayuga, ON.  Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin Competition winners were Olivia Lee (Station Creek GC) Cole Tondeur, Craig Stefureak (Sundrim GC) and Spencer Sommers.
