Kennedy crowned king of MJT’s Ambassador stop Lanoue shortlisted for MJT Team Canada to Australia

 

Windsor, ON – (June 10, 2013) – Stellar rounds of 72-71 (143) bestowed the Low Overall and MJT Junior Boys 17-19 Title on Nicklaus Kennedy, 18, of London, ON, in the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s MJT Team Canada Qualifier at Ambassador Golf Club in Windsor, ON, after he edged Crawford McKinlay, 18, of Blenhiem, ON (71, 73=144), by one stroke in the June 8th and 9th tournament this past weekend. The event also featured a qualifier for shortlisted positions on MJT Team Canada to the SRIXON International Junior Classic in Australia this October, with the final winners to be announced once all MJT qualifiers across the country have completed.

“It feels great to know that my work is paying off,” Kennedy said, as he attributed his win to being good under pressure and ‘practicing a lot.’ He paid kudos to Crawford, saying, “He played an unbelievable back nine.” Third place in the division went to MJT veteran Keaton Jones, 17, of Kitchener, ON, who shot 72, 77=149.

More fine scores were recorded in the MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 division, where Gil Lanoue, 15, of Belle River, ON, also fired rounds of 71, 73=144, to win by three strokes over Wesley Day, 16, of Ajax, ON (74, 73=147). “It feels great, I always wanted to win a MJT (event),” said Lanoue, now shortlisted for a spot on MJT Team Canada to Australia and who attributed his victory to ‘the dedication of my parents with my game.’ Thomas DeMarco, 16, of LaSalle, ON, carded 76, 77=153 to finish third in the division.

The MJT Bantam Boys 14 and under title was won in a close race by Curtis Hughes, 13, of Lakeshore, ON, who shot 74, 80=154 to edge Mackenzie Raines, 14, of Kitchener (78, 77=155), by one stroke. “My drives were great, I hit almost every fairway,” said Hughes. “Coming down the stretch I knew I had to make the putt on 18.  I was nervous. It feels good to win my first tournament with the MJT and I hope to win another.” Third place in this division was claimed by Adam Nunes, 13, of Tecumseh, ON (77, 82=159).

In the Girls division, Alyssa Getty, 16, of Leamington, ON, shot 78, 77=155 to run away with the title. “I am very happy (to win), it means a lot to me,” she said, noting she found the course in really good condition. “I was surprised with all the rain lately - it was fun to play.”  Emily Stadder , 17, of Windsor, placed second among the Girls (82, 86=168) and Carly Shane, 19, of Waterloo, ON, placed third (91, 85=176).

Divisional winners of the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Carly Shane, Adam Crease of Windsor, Gil Lanoue and Mitch Johnson of Cambridge, ON, while Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin prizes were won by Alyssa Getty, Adam Crease, Jack Quirke of Waterloo, and David French of Sarnia, ON. Golf Town Comeback Awards for best stroke improvement over day one went to Carly Shane, Mackenzie Raines, Zak Hart of Windsor, and Chris Hennigar of London, ON.
