Three playoffs in PEI at MJT’s Andersons Creek stop

Hunter River, PEI – (August 12, 2013) – Canada’s number-one played Junior Golf Tour, the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, made a new two-day stop at the beautiful Andersons Creek Golf Course in Hunter River, PEI, this past weekend, where playoffs were needed to decide the champions in three out of the four divisions.

After shooting solid scores of 74-74 (148), Corey McMinniman, 16, of Fredericton, NB, tied for the lead in MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 with first-round leader Colin Koughan, 15, of Stratford, PEI, (70-78=148), forcing a playoff which McMinniman eventually won, securing the title and Low Overall status for the tournament. Third place in the division went to 16-year old Luke MacAuley of Stratford, who shot 79-73 (152).

In the MJT Junior Boys 17-19 Division, a three way playoff was needed to determine the champion.  Marc-Andre Belanger, 18, of Dieppe, NB, shot 76-85 (161) and then won on extra holes, as he outlasted John Gibbons, 17, of Rothesay, NB, (80-81=161) and Matthew Shubley, 17, of Whitby, ON, who carded 78-83 (161).

In the MJT Bantam Boys 14 & Under Division there was another three-way tie for the lead between 14-year old Sam Reid of Moncton, NB, (77-74=151), Graham Gourley, 13, of Fredericton, who carded 77-74 (151), and Ben Macdonald, 14, of Halifax, NS, (76-75=151). It was a tight race all tournament, but ultimately Reid prevailed in a playoff and claimed the title.

18-year old Rachel Clark made the long journey from Edmonton, Alberta, to play as the sole female golfer in the event.  Clark finished with very solid rounds of 95-91 (186).

Divisional winners of the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Greg McDonald of Halifax, and Danek Hadley of Bathurst, NB, while Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin Competition winners were Graham Gourley, Luke MacAuley and John Gibbons.  Golf Town Comeback Awards for best second round improvement went to Nicholas Woods of Moncton, NB, Gino Leblanc of Memrancook, NB, and Maxime Larochelle of Dieppe.
