Chiasson champion at MJT’s Carlisle stop - Graham secures spot to FCG San Diego Junior Amateur

Hamilton, ON – (July 8, 2013) –The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) held the MJT Nationwide Series at the well-manicured Carlisle Golf and Country Club in Hamilton, ON, this past weekend, where a solid field of junior golfers teed it up in the two-day tournament which also featured qualifying for the Future Champions Golf (FCG) San Diego Junior Amateur.

“The weekend was fantastic, a wonderful venue with some nice play and we were very lucky to avoid the rain both days as it was quite hot and humid with thunderstorms in the forecast,” said MJT Tournament Director and PGA of Canada Professional, Mike Skimson. “Great to see so many new faces still coming out to try the tour and it was even better to have both Lucas Wu from Vancouver and Connor Blake from Calgary taking part.”

Overall champion was Matt Chiasson, 19, of Cambridge, ON, who shot 74-75 (149) to finish Low Overall and claim the MJT Junior Boys 17-19 gold medal. “I trusted my swing and my line while I was putting,” said Chiasson. “It feels great to play well at this event and even sweeter to win.” Finishing second in the division and the eligible winner of the spot into the FCG San Diego Junior Amateur was Adam Graham, 17, of Sarnia, ON, who carded 75-77 (152). Peter Skynner, 18, of Oakville, ON, shot 79-79 (158) to place third.

Thomas Code, 15, of Dorchester, ON, beat Sam Kreze, 16, of Kitchener, ON, on the second playoff hole after they both had carded identical rounds of 76-80 (156), forcing a playoff in the MJT Juvenile Boys 15-16 division.  “My highlight was the putt to win on the second playoff hole,” said Code. “This is a real confidence booster.”  Matthew Yustin, 15, of Gormley, ON, (79-79=158) rounded out the top three.

In the Girls division, Lorelle Weavers, 19, of Burlington, shot 72-79 (151) to win in an impressive showing.  “After all the hard work that I have been putting in lately, it is nice to see some results,” said Weavers, “I have seen short game improvement.” Diana McDonald, 15, of Kingston, ON, finished alone in second after solid rounds of 76-84 (160) while there was a tie for third at 179 total score between Elanna Lachaine-DeMarchi, 16, of Cambridge (92-87) and Aly Medeiros, 19, of Burlington, ON (92-87).

14-year old Shane Price of Orangeville, ON, fired rounds of 73-79 (152) to claim the MJT Bantam Boys 14 and under champion’s medal in a tight race.  “I was just trying to take one shot at a time and take my time,” Price commented. “The win feels awesome!” Finishing in a tie for second place at 157 total score were Connor Blake, 14, of Calgary, AB, who carded 81-76 and Lucas Wu, 14, of Vancouver, BC, who scored 74-83.
