Playoff Victory for Roach on MJT Prodigy Series at Carnmoney

Calgary, AB – (July 18, 2013) –The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) made a three-day stop at the beautiful and well-manicured Carnmoney Golf Club in DeWinton, AB, from July 15th to 17th, where MJT Tournament Director and PGA of Canada Professional, Trent Matson, noted the quality of the facility. “What a great golf course! The course was in fantastic shape, but there was a huge premium on hitting fairways and greens this week,” he said. Players vied for division titles plus the event was a qualifier for the Texas Junior Golf Tour’s (TJGT) Holiday Classic at Barton Creek this December in Austin, Texas.

Derek Roach, 17, of Calgary, AB, shot 79-73-76 (228) won the MJT Junior Boys 17-19 division and the spot to Texas in a one hole playoff against 17-year old Calgarian Scott McNichol (78-72-78=228). “Scott was in trouble in the playoff, so I was thinking that I just needed to hit the green – which I didn’t.  I missed the green and got it up and down for the win,” said Roach. “It feels great to win.  I leave for college on August 2nd, so this is a nice finish.” Finishing third in the division was Doug Whitten, 18, of Medicine Hat, AB, who shot rounds of 83-80-76 (239).
