LEMAY’S 68 LOW OVERALL ON MJT’S ONE DAY FALL SERIES AT BRAEBEN

Mississauga, ON - (October 4, 2010) –
A cold and breezy day on the links at BraeBen Golf Club in Mississauga on Saturday October 2nd yielded a fine four-under-par total from 14-year-old Matt LeMay of Waterloo, who won the Boys 14-16 division and low overall at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) One Day Fall Series stop at the course.

LeMay fired 68 to beat Jake McNulty, 15, of Port Perry, and Tyler Schepens, 16, of London, who tied for second place in the division after shooting 79. “I feel great about how I performed today making seven birdies,” said LeMay. “My chip in on the 15th hole was a highlight. My goals in the off-season are to continue to refine my short game to produce more par or better scores in 2011.”

There was some good play for the most part in all divisions, however many players struggled on the greens. Jamie Cherutti, 17, of Aurora, beat his hometown rival Jordan Gregoris, also 17, by two strokes to win the Boys 17-19 title with a 76. “You have to love the golf gods after my one-and-a-half foot putt hit the centre of the hole and then just sat on the lip,” said Cherutti, who now had two MJT wins to his credit, and added, “I feel great about having multiple MJT wins in one season.” Third place in the division went to Karim Corringham, 19, of Pickering, after he made an amazing 15 stroke turnaround from his front nine to his back nine to shoot 81 (48,33).

Tight competition in the Girls division saw a three-way tie for second place at 91 between Meghan Bennett, 15, of Pickering, Monica Gabriele, 14, of Mississauga, and Kimberly Risulmi, 16, of Milton, but Kirsten Degutis, 17, of Waterloo, edged all to win with a score of 89. “I fell proud of how I kept plugging away,” she said. “Key to my victory was not giving up and sticking to the game plan.”

12-year-old Max Clift, of Kitchener, shot 80 to win his first Boys 13 and under title this season in style, and stated that his highlight was recovering after a triple/double finish on the front nine. “I am happy to break through and get an MJT win this year,” he summed up. Anthony Occhiuto, 11, of Guelph, carded 87 to place second, followed by Connor Doucette, 13, of Waterloo, who placed third with a score of 89.

Clift also cleaned up his division’s Mr. Lube Long Drive and Sundog Closest-to-the-Pin competitions. The other Long Drive division winners were Tyler Schepens, Joshua Richard-Munro, 17, of Oakville, and Meghan Bennett, while Closest-to-the-Pin winners included Ben Finlayson, 16, of Kitchener, and Monica Gabriele. Golf Town Comeback awards went to Tyler Nagano, 11, of Toronto, Ben Finlayson, Karim Corringham and Annika Haynes, 14, of Oakville.

The penultimate stop on the MJT’s Ontario One Day Fall Series runs October 9th at Cambridge Golf Club in Canmbridge. For more information or to register, please visit www.maplejt.com or call 1-877-859-4653.
