KISHI'S 6-UNDER CLAIMS CATTERMOLE GROUP CLASSIC CROWN AT KING'S LINKS

Delta, B.C. – (May 4, 2009)
– Delta's King's Links Golf Club hosted the two-day Cattermole Group Classic on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour this past weekend, sponsored by long-time tour supporter, Cattermole Group. The competitive junior golfers were vying for division titles as well as a spot on MJT Team Canada to Scotland, to play in the Scotland Kingdom of Fife Team Matches this August.

On the opening day the winds were gusting at the links style Boundary Bay golf course. Some of the early competitors figured it was a four club wind coming right off the water. The boys 17-19 division leader Hiroki Kishi, 18, of Victoria, BC, fired a one-under-par 71 and found himself with a one shot lead over Beach Grove Golf Club's Michael Wawryk, 18, of Delta. In the boys 14-16 division, King's Links' Andrew Rasmussen, 16, of Delta, led with an even par 72. One shot back was Morgan Creek's Sunny Li, 14, of Surrey. The boys 13 and under division found Beach Grove's Matthew Davis, 13, of Delta, in the lead for his first time in competitive play with a fine score of 76. Finally in the girls division, Keanna Mason, 12, of Maple Ridge, shot 79 to take her place as the clubhouse leader.

Day two's weather forecast was calling for stormy weather but players found a calmer, sunny day. King's Links superintendents tucked the pins all over the golf course looking to stump the competitors. In the girls division, Porsche Campbell, 16, of Vancouver, made a great comeback and fired 76 to win the Cattermole Group Classic title over Leilanie Kim, 16, of Surrey, and Jenny An, 16 of Coquitlam. In the boys 13 & under division, Donald Qui, 12, of Richmond, shot an unbelievable 74 to take the win over Oscar Baek, 13, of Coquitlam, and Matthew Davis. The boys 14 to 16 division witnessed a great battle. Andrew Rasmussen edged Sunny Li with an even par 72 to take his first MJT title. Brendan Southwind, 16, of Vancouver, finished in third place with two-day scores of 79-72. Finally, in boys 17-19, Hiroki Kishi shot one of the lowest scores ever in tournament history at King's Links with a 67 and won the overall title with his six-under-par total of 138, also claiming the spot on MJT Team Canada to Scotland. Michael Wawryk battled back and forth throughout the game and finished with an impressive two under par 70 to take second in this division. William Deck, 17, of Kelowna, placed third after shooting 76-79.

Other tournament highlights were Inkmips' Victor Baptiste, 14, of Oliver, finishing birdie, birdie to shoot 87-86 – an outstanding improvement of 41 strokes over his last event. Olivia Babichuk, 13, of Port Moody, shot 15 strokes lower than her first round, another excellent improvement.

The divisional winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Oscar Baek, Sang Gyun Lee, 14, of Calgary, AB, Keanna Mason and Michael Wawryk. The Sundog Skills competition divisional winners were Mitchell Anderson, 13, of Coquitlam, Brendan Southwind, Leilanie Kim and Conlan Laporte, 17, of Victoria.
