FOUCHER LOW OVERALL AT MJT’S RIVE-SUD EVENT

ST-BASILE-LE-GRAND, QC – The rain came down but the junior golfers forged ahead in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) two day tournament at Club de Golf Rive-Sud in St-Basile-le-Grand, QC, on August 7th and 8th, where Emmanuel Foucher fired great rounds of 76-77 to win low overall score and the Boys 14-16 division title.

Foucher, 15, of Laval Ouest, claimed low overall score by two strokes and won his division by 10 strokes. “I did my best on every shot and it turned out well,” he said. “The best part of my game was chipping and putting and I felt very relaxed.” The runner-up in Boys 14-16 was Sebastien Guay, 15, of Ste-Catherine, who shot 80-83. Third place in the division went to Alexander Wilhelm, 14, of Mt. St. Hilaire, who shot 82-83 (165).

The Boys 17 and up division was won by Jonathan Poissant, 17, of St. Michel, who fired 77-78 (155), beating Raphael Vena, 17, of Laval, by four shots. “I felt very confident even though the weather was not great,” he said. “I drove the ball very well, the rest of my game was not very good. I am going to practice and come back better next year.” Runner-up Vena shot 80-79. Paul Lemay, 21, of Pointe-Claire, placed third in the division with scores of 79-81 (160).

Lucas Greco, 13, of Montreal, ran away with the Boys 13 and under title after carding rounds of 81-74 for a 155 total. “I was trying to par as many holes as possible,” he said. “I did not feel any pressure – I had fun.” Second place finisher was Eric-James Boffey, 13, of Brossard, who shot 81-80 (161), while third place was claimed by Benoit Desrosiers, 13, of Mt. St. Hilaire.

Boffey also won the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition, while the Sundog Skills competition divisional winners were Lucas Greco, Benjamin Millaud-Meunier, 16, of Montreal, and Paul Lemay.

This event marks the end of the MJT’s season in the province; junior golfers are encouraged to play the three-event circuit in 2009 and benefit from all that the program offers Quebec’s junior golfers. For more information please visit www.maplejt.com or call 1-877-859-4653.
