LEMAY CONTINUES WINNING STREAK ON MJT AT FOXWOOD

BADEN, ON – Waterloo’s 12-year-old Matt LeMay, who plays out of Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge, continued his winning streak in the Boys 13 and under division at the penultimate stop on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) inaugural one-day Ontario Fall Series, after firing a 73 on Foxwood Golf Club in Baden.

LeMay notched up his fourth MJT victory this season at the tournament, which ran on Saturday, October 11th. “Hitting the pin on the last hole was my highlight,” he said. “It feels great to win on a course with a lot of trees and on greens which were very difficult today.” Tied for second place in this division with a score of 81 were Max Clift, 10, of Kitchener and Lucas Lukovic, 11, of Caledon. The division’s Mr. Lube Long Drive and Sundog Closest-to-the-Pin (KP) competitions were both won by LeMay.

Chris Hemmerich, 15, of Kitchener and Westmount Golf Club, finished birdie-birdie to card a 76, winning the Boys 14-16 title by two strokes over a slew of close competitors. “It feels great to finish first today after two second place finishes,” he said. Four players tied at 78 behind Hemmerich – Neil Khosla, 16, of Mississauga, Sameer Kalia, 14, of Campbellville, Andy Montalbano, 15, of Mississauga, and Cody Stout, 16, formerly of Red Deer, Alberta, who has recently moved to Ontario. Montalbano won the division’s Long Drive and Javier Diaz, 16, of Woodbridge, won the KP.

Sterling Emery, 17, of Orangeville and Shelburne Golf Club, repeated as champion of the Boys 17 and up division with a score of 79, citing his highlight as rebounding after making a nine on the 11th hole to hitting to five feet from the pin on the next hole to make birdie. “Overall the course was in great shape but with a few wet areas,” he said. “It feels great to win again, especially back-to-back.” Runner-up was Chris Riediger, 20, of Kitchener, who shot 81, while Braam Botha, 17, of Stoney Creek, finished third (73). Emery won KP while Riediger won the Long Drive competition for their group.

In the girls division, Madison Easterbrook, 12, of Burlington, shot 86 to beat Kirsten Degutis, 15, of Waterloo, noting that the course had ‘plenty of slope so you had to be very focused on where to aim’ and that it felt great to win. Easterbrook, a junior at Hidden Lake Golf Club, added the Long Drive and KP prizes to her bounty. “I received some wonderful prizes and played with a good friend,” she said.
