Corboy King of King's Links
DELTA, B.C. – Canada’s only national junior golf tour run exclusively by Canadian PGA Professionals, the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), wrapped up a two-day tournament at the recently-renamed King’s Links Golf Club in Boundary Bay, Delta, this past weekend. The tournament was one out of the 40-event series run by the Boston Pizza-presented MJT, and also offered a qualifying spot on MJT Team Canada to the CAN/USA Matches at ASU Karsten Golf Club in Tempe, Arizona, this December.
Michael Corboy, 18, of Langley, BC, a five-year MJT veteran, claimed his first MJT division title in decisive fashion after firing 73-68 on the tricky links-style course. Corboy, who chipped in both rounds, once for eagle and once for birdie, had low overall score for the field and won the Boys 17 and up division by six strokes. “I feel excited I guess,” he said, when asked about how he felt about winning. “Coming down the stretch I thought to just stay focused on the hole (I was) on. I putted well the second day and my ball striking was consistent.” Maple Ridge juniors took both second and third place in the Boys 17 and up division - Cameron Harris, 17, shot 77-70 (147) and Han Baek, 18, shot 73-75 (148).
