Gibson Qualifies for China Junior Open at
MJT-CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Championship

SASKATOON, SK. – Sunshine on day one quickly turned to drenching rain at the two-day Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) tournament at Perdue Oasis Golf Resort in Saskatoon this past weekend. The tournament, in which junior golfers from Alberta, Manitoba and all over Saskatchewan participated, was part of the six-event CPGA Zone Junior Championship series initiated by the MJT six years ago, and was presented by Finora, a substantial Canadian-based supplier and processor of beans, peas and lentils. Up for grabs was one spot for boys up to age 18 in the 2008 China Junior Open.

After rain rendered the course unplayable during round two, the event was shortened to 18 holes. This took nothing away from the fact that Jesse Gibson, 15, and Scott Thompson, 18, deserved victory in their respective divisions of Boys 14-16 and 17 and up after both firing brilliant rounds of four-under-par 68’s on day one. With Thompson turning 19 in September, Gibson claims the exemption into the China Junior Open, an event in which the 2007 Boys 11-14 Champion was MJT member Kevin Lee.
