MJT ONE DAY SERIES WRAPS AT FRASERVIEW GOLF CLUB IN VANCOUVER

Vancouver, BC – The third and final stop on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) One Day Fall Series concluded Saturday at Fraserview Golf Club in Vancouver, ending another successful season for the program.

Ahnna Kim, 14, of South Surrey and Eugene Wong, 15, of North Vancouver were crowned series champions after winning their respective divisions in all three events.

“The highlight for me in the last tournament was my chip in for birdie on a par three,” said Kim. “I feel happy about the win and it feels great to win three in a row.”

“It feels great to win all the One Day tournaments,” echoed Wong, current BC Junior Boys Champion. “The main benefit of playing the MJT Fall tournaments is keeping up the tournament spirit!”

Ahnna Kim shot 80 to beat young phenomenon Jisoo Keel, 10, of Coquitlam, by two strokes. Third place among the girls went to Goeun Lee, 15, of Richmond, who shot 83.

Eugene Wong carded an even-par round of 72 to win the Boys 14-16 division. Sean Craigon, 15, and Ryan Lloyd, 16, both of Maple Ridge, tied for second place with rounds of 74.

In the Boys 13 and under division, Andy Yang, 13, of Port Moody, won his second MJT title of the year with a great score of 70, edging 10-year-old rising star Kevin Lee, of Surrey, by one stroke. “I feel happy and I am proud of myself because it is my first time shooting under par,” said Yang.

Third place in the division went to Brock Staller, 13, of Surrey, who carded a score of 73.

The Boys 17 and up division, which completed only 15 holes due to encroaching darkness, was won by Seon Kim, 17, of Surrey. “The highlight for me here was back-to-back birdies on the 8th and 9th holes,” said Kim.

Kim shot 58 over the shortened course, two strokes better than Matt Lister, 19, of Richmond. Four strokes back of Lister was Nash Kassam, 17, of Vancouver, who shot 64.

The division winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive competition were Kevin Lee, Conrado Paderes, 14, of Vancouver, Matt Lister and Hayley Geremia, 16, of Port Moody.

Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin competition divisional winners were Chris Li, 13, of Coquitlam, Brad Goddard, 15, of Langley, Jesse Watt, 17, of North Vancouver, and Emily Kim, 14, of Port Coquitlam.

The MJT One Day Fall Series events were in partnership with the Vancouver Park Board and offered an introduction for new players to tournament golf with a chance to play with some of the best juniors in the province.
