SCOBIE SCOOPS LOW OVERALL ON MJT AT NATIONAL PINES

Barrie, ON – (August 2, 2010) –
The Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) visited Barrie for the very first time in its 12 year history on the July 31 – August 1 long weekend, to introduce players in the region to Canada’s only national junior tour run exclusively by Canadian PGA Professionals, and qualify an eligible player for a paid entry into a Future Collegiate World Tour (FCWT) event of their choice in the USA.

Matthew Scobie, 15, of Ajax, fired a great opening round score of 69 to lead the field and held onto his lead with a 75 on day two to finish at 144 total score, scooping the Boys 14-16 gold medal, low overall, and the FCWT spot. “I was able to make some key putts,” said Scobie. “My highlight was my overall performance on the par fives – I was able to take advantage of them. It feels really good to know I can compete against the players that were in this field this week.” There was a tie for the silver medal behind Scobie in his division at 150 total score between Andrew Moffat, 16, of Brantford (77-73), and Keaton Jones, 15, of Kitchener (71-79).
