MJT Quagmire Golf Classic at Mystic GC

May 22-23, 2010
Ancaster, ON

Ancaster, ON – (May 24, 2010) –
A great field of top junior golfers competed over the May long weekend in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) Quagmire Golf Classic at Mystic Golf Club in Ancaster, vying for division titles and qualifying spots. Quagmire Golf has been a sponsor of the MJT for four years, and their tournament qualified players for international exemptions into a Future Collegiate World Tour (FCWT) event in the USA and a spot into the Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championship in Illinois.

In the Boys 17-19 division, Sterling Emery, 19, of Orangeville, was six under after 16 holes, with Brad Burgess, 17, of St. Catherine’s, four shots back. Emery finished bogey, double bogey to score 78-69 and tie with Burgess (75-72), forcing a playoff. Emery won on the first playoff hole after hitting it to seven feet while Burgess went in the bunker. “The course handled the rain well and the greens were nice and fast,” summed up Emery. “But key to my win was just staying positive after blowing a five shot lead. I feel good about winning, I just wish it wasn’t in a playoff. I want to try and win as many events and get as many points as I can.” Burgess is the eligible qualifier for the FCWT spot, as Emery is already 19. Brett Kennedy, 17, of Kitchener, fired 76-78 to place third in the division.
