WILSON WAGES WAR WITH THE WIND AT MJT’S MACLEOD SAVINGS STOP
Claresholm, AB - (September 8, 2009) – The weather at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s stop at The Bridges at Claresholm Golf Club in Claresholm went from perfect conditions at 10:00 a.m. in the morning of September 6th to vicious winds of 70km per hour by noon, rendering conditions extremely difficult for the competitive junior golfers. This event was the first of two one-day tournaments in the province sponsored by Macleod Savings and Credit Union.
MJT Tournament Director, Trent Matson, CPGA, stated that the wind was so strong it blew away the tour tent and other event paraphernalia. “The course played to about 80 par today,” he said. “It was a minimum three club wind out there, with most holes running sideways from the wind, making shots even more difficult.”
Dylan Wilson, 15, of Okotoks, was low overall and Boys 14-16 Champion with an outstanding 78 in those conditions. Wilson said he ‘putted really well and got it in the hole. I hit a lot of solid shots today.’ Finishing in second place in this division was Derek Field, 16, of Calgary, who shot 84. There was a tie for third place at 87 between Ryan O’Donnell, 16, of Lethbridge, and Drew Barvir, 15, of Dewinton.
