CHRISTIANSEN ADDS TEXAS TO HIS ROSTER AT ELMWOOD
Swift Current, SK.-(June 15, 2009) – Elmwood Golf Club in Swift Current played host to the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) Finora Classic this past weekend, and some great golf was played in the hot and breezy weather, with players battling tough pins and each other in four divisions. Also up for grabs was a spot in the Texas Junior Masters at the Hyatt Regency Hill Resort in San Antonio, TX, this July.
Jerry Christiansen, 16, of Air Ronge, shot an outstanding 70-70 (140) winning the Finora Classic boys 14-16 division title and nailing low overall score for the tournament which gives him the spot in Texas. “I scrambled well and managed to shoot good scores without my swing,” he said, referencing shaky parts of his game. “It feels good to know I can win without a perfect long game,” he added. Christiansen also qualified for MJT Team Canada to Scotland at the previous MJT Finora Classic in North Battleford, so is continuing his winning ways.
Runner-up in this division, with a super one-under second day round, was Danny Klughart, 16, of Prince Albert, who fired 73-70 (143). Aaron Vogel, 15, of Regina, turned in an incredible 68 on day two, but it wasn’t enough to oust Klughart from his second place seat. Vogel finished third in the division with 76-68 (144).
Very solid scores in the boys 17-19 division saw Brennan Rumancik, 18, of Maple Creek, come out on top with a well-played 73-70 (143) for the event. “I putted pretty well and I hit my driver extremely well too,” Rumancik said. “I feel great; I’m glad I could squeak out a win this weekend!”
