SURREY, B.C. – Cool weather prevailed during the two-day Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) HSBC Bank Canada Classic at Hazelmere Golf Club in Surrey, B.C., this past Mother’s Day weekend. The event was a double qualifier for spots on MJT Team Canada to the Scotland Kingdom of Fife Team Matches in St. Andrews, U.K., and the International Junior Golf Invitational in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
Third-year MJT member Harrison Clegg, 15, of Langley, fired 75-72 (147) to claim low overall and the HSBC Bank Canada Classic Boys 14-16 division title in style, earning a spot on MJT Team Canada. Clegg, who cited his tournament highlight as his eagle on the 12th hole from the fairway, said he was coming down the stretch thinking, ‘Don’t make any large numbers.’ Runner-up in his division was China Junior Open champion Kevin Lee, 13, of Surrey, who has opted to play up a division. Lee, who also qualified for MJT Team Canada, shot back-to-back rounds of 75 for a 150 total score. Mackenzie Osborne, 16, of Comox, posted rounds of 77-77 (154) to edge his twin brother and first round leader, Graham, for third place in the division.
