WINNIPEG, MB – The second stop in Manitoba on the Boston Pizza-presented Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) was held at St. Boniface Golf Course in Winnipeg on July 3rd and 4th - a double qualifier for two international events. Players from all over Manitoba and parts of Ontario competed for spots in the CAN/USA Team Matches at ASU Karsten Golf Club in Tempe, AZ, this December, and into the Canada-International Friendship Cup at Beach Grove Golf Club in Delta, B.C., this August.
Hot weather greeted the players, as well as a golf course in great shape, and the scores were a little higher than usual due to some tough pins and very fast greens. A highlight of the tournament was the acing of two holes-in-one during the first round - by Myles Sullivan, 14, of Portage le Prairie, MB, on the 5th hole, and Edward (Teddy) Markham, 16, of Beausejour, MB, on the 14th hole. Each of these juniors will receive a $1,000 R.E.S.P. from MJT sponsor ‘Fire at the Flag’, a company which gives this generous educational assistance to any junior golfer who scores a hole-in-one at any MJT event across the country.
