Thompson Fires Six-Under Par for MJT Victory

SASKATOON, SK – The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) opened its 2007 Saskatchewan season at Moon Lake Golf Club in Saskatoon on May 5th and 6th, with a triple qualifier for three major international events. Players from British Columbia, Alberta and all over Saskatchewan competed for spots on MJT Team Canada to the Scotland Kingdom of Fife Junior Team Matches in the U.K., and on MJT Team Canada to the International Junior Golf Invitational (IJGI) in Cuernavaca, Mexico, as well as in the World Youth Team Challenge at Bolingbrook Golf Club in Illinois, USA.

Scott Thompson, 18, of St. Walburg, SK, blitzed his way to overall victory and Boys 17 and up division title with a six-under-par total score of 138 (68-70). “It’s my last junior golf season and winning is important,” said Thompson. Jeff Chambers, Canadian PGA Professional and MJT Tournament Director, added, “He is just so incredibly solid. I was pleased to see both Scott and Tim (Acaster) do so well as I have worked with them for four years.” Acaster, 18, of North Battleford, SK, fired 69-73 (142) to finish at two-under-par, placing as runner-up to Thompson. Both players received spots on MJT Team Canada, with Thompson selecting Scotland under Team Coach Chambers. Acaster, who won a place on the Team to Scotland last year, will now have the opportunity to compete in Mexico, where MJT Team Canada has won the IJGI for the past two years over teams from Mexico, U.S.A. and Guatemala.
