TWO MORE FOR TEXAS AFTER MJT-ONTARIO PGA JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
LONDON, ON – A major event on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), endorsed by the Ontario Professional Golfers’ Association (OPGA), played out Sunday and Monday, July 30th and 31st, on Forest City National Golf Course in London, ON. The 36-hole tournament, the MJT-Ontario PGA Junior Championship, is part of a series of national events pioneered by the MJT in conjunction with the provincial CPGA zones. Junior golfers from all over Ontario took part, with the low overall scorers among both the boys and girls receiving exemptions into the North American Junior Championship in New Braunfels, Texas, this December.
Meg Pototshnik, 15, of Stratford and Sunningdale Golf and Country Club, fired the low overall score for the field (76-75=151), winning her division and the girl’s spot on Maple Leaf Team Canada to Texas. A three-stroke victory claimed the boy’s exemption for Travis Horvath, 16, of Tillsonburg and Tillsonburg Golf Club, who fired 73-80 for a 36-hole total of 153, also scooping the MJT-Ontario PGA Junior Boys 14-16 champion’s trophy. Pototshnik and Horvath will join the team of six boys and two girls; the other members are currently qualifying at MJT events across the country.
Runner-up to Horvath in the Boys 14-16 division was Justin DaSilva, 16, of Cambridge, who shot 76-81 (157). One stroke back in third place with back-to-back scores of 79 (158 total) was Jordan Roemer, 16, of Cobourg.
