NEUSTAETER WINS CPGA-SASKATCHEWAN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
ON MAPLE LEAF JUNIOR GOLF TOUR

SASKATOON, SK. ? The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) held the third annual CPGA-Saskatchewan Junior Championship presented by Mazda on July 20 and 21 at the new Dakota Dunes Golf Links in Saskatoon.

Poor weather conditions with a two and a half hour rain delay during the first round did not deter Ryan Neustaeter of Swift Current from posting the low round of 76 in the field, which he followed up with a 75 on day two to win the overall CPGA-Saskatchewan Junior Boys Champion title as well as the Boys 17 and Up division.

Runner up to Neustaeter in this division was Stephen Kent from Calgary, Alberta, who shot 77-82 for a 159 total score. Third place went to Chase Osiowy, also from Calgary, who posted rounds of 85-79 for a 164 total.

The CPGA-Saskatchewan Junior Boys 14-16 Champion was Geoff Lang from Winnipeg, Manitoba, who shot 80-78 for a 158 total score. Lang was followed by Regina?s Cornel Smith (79-82=161) in second place with third place claimed by Braden Erhardt from Kelowna, BC (85-78=163).

Veteran Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour player Dallas Mengel from Watrous, recently back from the 37th annual Callaway Golf Junior World Championships in San Diego, CA, won the title of CPGA-Saskatchewan Junior Boys 13 and under Champion with rounds of 81-78=159.

In second place behind Mengel was Neil Pulongbarit (80-89=169) from Edmonton, Alberta, followed by Michael Siwicki from Winnipeg in third place (91-85=176).

?This was a good bunch of kids and all went off well with the exception of the weather during the first round,? said Brennen Gee, CPGA Professional at Dakota Dunes Golf Links.

Gee also held a Skills Competition during the event where the division winners in the Mr. Lube Long Drive were Mengel, Osiowy, and Kyle Lackie (Calgary), while winners in the Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin were Pulongbarit and Lang.

The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour is presented by Boston Pizza across Canada and hosts tournaments for boys and girls ages 10 through 23. The Tour, which is run exclusively by Canadian Golf Professionals, is endorsed by PGA Tour veterans Dave Barr and Ray Stewart. For more information please visit www.maplejt.com or call 1-877-859-GOLF.
