SCORCHING 7 UNDER PAR WINS
MAPLE LEAF JUNIOR GOLF TOUR STOP AT RIVERVIEW

REDCLIFF/MEDICINE HAT, AB ? The thought of the upcoming Alberta Junior Provincial Boys Championship did not bother past champion and Canadian Junior Golf Team member Dale Vallely this past Tuesday-Wednesday on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT).

Vallely, from Medicine Hat, shot two rounds of 68-67 for an outstanding 7-under-par total score of 135 during the MJT at Riverview Golf Club in Redcliff near Medicine Hat to win the Boys 17 and up division title and overall low score for the tournament.

?All around I am playing well,? said Vallely, when asked about his expectations heading into next week?s Alberta Junior Championship. ?I hit 32 greens out of 36. I need to putt a bit better but if I keep it in play I will be fine.?

Michael Crisanti from Calgary shot a blistering final round score of 66 to finish second to Vallely in this division with scores of 74-66=140. In third place was Andrew Haakman from Red Deer (76-71=147), followed by Tyler Kemp from Lethbridge in fourth spot (80-76=156).

The Boys 14-16 division champion was Mitchell Fox from Okotoks, who scored 70-75=145. Fox, who recently placed T-8th out of 185 players in the Future Collegiate World Tour?s National Boys Championship at PGA West in La Quinta, CA, believed his ball striking allowed him to win.

?The course was in good condition and it got tough when the wind blew,? said Fox. ?I?m hoping to finish in the top three (next week). I need to work on my short game for that to happen.?

15-year-old Devin Crisanti from Calgary placed second with scores of 81-78=159. In third place was Ben Janko of Red Deer (81-79=160), followed by Taylor Smith of Swift Current, SK, in fourth (82-83=165).

12-year-old Dallas Mengel from Watrous, SK, won the Boys 13 and under division with scores of 76-77 for a 153 total.

Mengel, who is on his way to the Callaway Golf Junior World Championships later this month with the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour team, rated the Riverview golf course in excellent shape but tough if you didn?t position yourself well. ?My approach shots were well positioned here and I never got down when I hit a bad shot. I want to play well (next week) and hopefully finish in a good position,? he said.

Placing second to Mengel was Scott Lowe from Calgary (80-77=157) followed by Jason McKinlay from Consort (80-79=159) in third place. Clancy Melhoff from Calgary finished fourth (78-83=161).

Melhoff also won the Mr Lube Long Drive Competition for his division, as did Fox and Kemp. Vallely, Fox and Mengel won the Sundog Closest to the Pin Competition for their respective divisions as well.

The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour is presented by Boston Pizza across Canada and hosts tournaments for boys and girls ages 10 through 23 in four age divisions. The MJT is the only major junior tour run exclusively by Golf Professionals and is endorsed by PGA Tour veterans Dave Barr and Ray Stewart.

The next event is the CPGA-Saskatchewan Junior Championship presented by Mazda at the new Dakota Dunes Golf Links in Saskatoon, July 20-21. For more information, please call 1-877-859-GOLF or visit www.maplejt.com.
