SCORCHING SUB-PAR ROUNDS FIRED IN
MAPLE LEAF JUNIOR GOLF TOUR EVENT AT BELMONT

LANGLEY, B.C. - The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour hosted the Cattermole Timber Junior at Belmont Golf Club in Langley, BC, this past weekend, where a full field of competitive juniors from across the province as well as from Alberta and Washington State went head-to-head in the two-day tournament.

The Girls division was won by 18-year-old In-ah Park from Burnaby, a long time Maple Leaf Junior Tour (MJT) player, who fired 68-73 for a 141 total score to beat fellow collegiate player Kari Broshko from Calgary by 10 strokes.

Park, who has competed on the MJT since she was 13 years old, is currently attending New Mexico State University on a full scholarship with All Academic Honours. ?It feels good to win as it is my last year playing junior golf,? Park said after clinching the title, adding that ?years of practice, hard work and experience on the Junior Tour series? were main contributing factors to her success.

A pair of talented 13 year old girls, Sue Kim from Langley (75-78=153) and Pamela Burneski from Surrey (76-78=154), placed third and fourth respectively.

A scorching second round score of 4-under 66 in the Boys 17 and up division scooped the title for Abbotsford?s Josh Taylor, who came from behind to tie for first place with first round leader Hansol Koh (72-70=142) from New Westminster. Taylor took the winner?s trophy based on his best second day score, but both players receive the same Order of Merit points.

Taylor, who shot 76-66=142 to claim his third Maple Leaf Tour win in as many starts, attributes his success to his coach, Sean Richardson, RCGA Player Development Coach. ?My hard work is paying off,? Taylor stated.

Third place in the division went to Dong Kyu Kim from Langley (74-70=144) with Jacob Hunt from Mission in fourth spot (76-72=148).

The Boys 14-16 division title was won by Adam Hadwin from Abbotsford, who shot 76-73 for a 149 total.

On his win, Hadwin commented, ?I would have to say my play off the tee set up some good iron play. I played much better on Sunday. Josh (first round leader Josh Campbell) played very well and it was a close battle until the end. It feels good to come out on top.?

After a costly nine strokes on the final hole of the tournament, Josh Campbell from Vancouver (75-77=152) had to settle for fourth place behind Zachary MacDougall from Coquitlam (77-74=151) and Kaylan Ng from North Delta ? who tied for second place, their best finishes on the Maple Leaf Tour to date.

A sizzling 32 on the front nine holes on the second day brought Reid Martin?s score up significantly to claim his first win on the MJT in the Boys 13 and under division. Martin, from Mukilteo, WA, shot 79-70=149 to beat first round leader Brett De Vries from Kelowna by two strokes.

?It feels great to have won because I know there was some tough competition,? said Martin, who is representing the Maple Leaf Junior Tour at the 37th annual Callaway Golf Junior World Championships in San Diego this July.

De Vries shot 76-75=151 to finish in second place. Tied for third were Blair Coan from Abbotsford (78-76=154) and Brian Cho from Port Moody (77-77=154).

Division winners of the Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition were Reid Martin, Brett Cuthbert (Langley), Josh Taylor and Jessica Wallace (Langley).

Sundog Eyewear Closest-to-the-Pin Competition winners were Conrado Paderes (Vancouver), Braden Erhardt (Kelowna), Steven Moody (Coquitlam) and Meg Montgomery (North Vancouver).

The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour presented by Boston Pizza, formerly the Western Canada Junior Tour, hosts 30 tournaments across Canada for boys and girls aged 10 to 23 in four divisions. Endorsed by PGA Tour veterans Dave Barr and Ray Stewart, it is the only major junior tour in Canada run exclusively by Canadian PGA Professionals. The next local Maple Leaf Tour event is the BC PGA Junior Championship presented by Mazda at Northview Golf Club in Cloverdale, July 28-30.
