Canada's #1 Junior Golf Tour

 

A memorable return to British Columbia’s Swan-e-Set Bay Resort & Country Club was made even more remarkable by a rare run of holes-in-one across Western Canada, as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour returned to the Pitt Meadows facility for the first time since 2019 on August 10–11.
 

The opening round of the MJT Order of Merit Series saw 11-year-old Adam Gu of Surrey, BC, ace the third hole on the Lee Trevino-designed Resort Course, providing an early highlight before going on to finish 12th in the MJT Peewee Boys division. 
 

At the same time in neighbouring Alberta, two competitors at the MJT Edge School Summer Classic each recorded holes-in-one during their opening rounds, creating an exceptionally rare occurrence of three aces across two MJT tournaments and two provinces on August 10.
 

The return to Swan-e-Set welcomed more than 80 golfers aged 19 and under across six divisions, competing for custom MJT trophies, adidas Golf shoes and valuable MJT Order of Merit points. Points earned throughout the season will help determine qualification for the 28th annual MJT National Championship presented by adidas Golf at Orange Lake Resort this November.

Eighteen-year-old Lukas Selander-Wendt of Abbotsford, BC, used a pair of matching 75s to win the MJT Junior Boys division with a 150 total. Consistency was exactly what Selander-Wendt had in mind entering the tournament, with his strategy to ‘play consistent golf and hit lots of fairways.’ Reflecting on the two days, he added, “It was great, had lots of fun.”

 

Richmond’s Megan Ly secured the MJT Girls 15-19 division title by a single stroke, posting rounds of 77 and 78 for a 155 total. The 15-year-old recorded two birdies and an eagle, the latter coming with her standout shot of the tournament: “Chip in for eagle on 17!” Ly approached the course with a focus on smart positioning, aiming to ‘stay away from the bunkers or hazards and lay up to a comfortable yardage.’

 

A one-under-par 71 in the final round propelled 16-year-old Ilia Khademi of West Vancouver to victory in the MJT Juvenile Boys division and Low Overall Boys honours at 144. Khademi delivered when it mattered most, describing a remarkable sequence that helped seal the win: “185-yard shot, bunker 40-yard slice over trees to loft, then made the birdie putt to win.”

 

Vancouver’s Tiffany Rao put together two even-par rounds of 72 to claim the MJT Girls U15 division at just 12 years old. Rao’s steady 144 total, which included nine birdies over 36 holes, also earned her Low Overall Girls honours for the tournament.

 

Matthew Dodson, 14, of Vernon, BC, prevailed in the MJT Bantam Boys division by one stroke after identical rounds of 76 gave him a 152 total. His simple strategy was to ‘make par,’ while a clutch short-game effort on the closing hole proved particularly important. Dodson highlighted his ‘chip shot on 18’ that he put ‘to 2 feet’ as a key moment in securing the title.

 

Two even-par rounds carried 12-year-old Matthew Liang of Vancouver to the MJT Peewee Boys division win, finishing at 144 with six birdies over the two days. Liang credited a developing part of his game for the result, saying, “The strongest part of my game is my big improvement of putting.” He also gave the tournament a glowing review: “The event is 5-star because the course is always a good difficulty for all ages. Everything was amazing.”
