Brooklin, ON
Park cards three-under in standout MJT Mini Tour performance at Whispering Ridge
Whispering Ridge Golf Club belonged to the next generation of Ontario’s golfers on August 22, as a strong field of athletes aged 12 and under arrived in Brooklin ready to make their mark on the MJT Mini Tour. Across five divisions, players went after division titles, custom MJT medals, and ZEAL Optics sunglasses, adding another chapter to a busy summer of competitive golf in the province.
And while the focus was firmly on the young athletes at Whispering Ridge, they weren’t the only Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour players competing on the property. Next door at Lakeridge Links, the MJT Junior Tour was underway for players aged 19 and under, putting two stages of the MJT pathway side-by-side for the day.
Twelve-year-old Ridley Rainsberry of Toronto, ON, navigated a challenging Whispering Ridge layout to claim the MJT Boys 11–12 title with a 76. “Considering that this course was tough, I was just trying to make pars,” said Rainsberry, who credited his dad with helping him manage some difficult lies that ‘probably saved me 5 strokes.’ He also praised the tournament experience, adding, “I really loved how this event was organized and how the rules officials helped.”
Burlington’s Matea Boras kept her composure on the way to securing the MJT Girls 11–12 division with an 82. The 11-year-old made staying patient a priority throughout the round: “My strategy was to stay calm, even if I hit a bad shot or had a bad hole.” Boras pointed to her work around the bunkers as a highlight, successfully getting up-and-down for sand saves both times she found the sand.
A one-shot margin separated James Plunkett from the field as the 10-year-old from Guelph, ON, captured the MJT Boys 9–10 title with an 80. Plunkett relied on a disciplined strategy of ‘playing the centre of the green’ to work his way around the demanding course. His verdict on the day was equally straightforward: “10/10, the course was fun, but difficult. The event was well run.”
Lanai Park continued an exceptional 2026 season, firing a brilliant three-under 62 to steal the MJT Girls 9–10 title. The 10-year-old Oakville golfer mixed two birdies with an eagle, with the latter providing the shot of the day: “I had a chip in eagle on a par 5!” Park was even more enthusiastic when asked to rate her MJT experience, offering an “Infinity out of 10” and adding, “keep up the good work!”
Eight-year-old Liam Lin of Markham, ON, turned in a 75 to win the MJT Boys 8U division, highlighted by two birdies and a memorable finish on the 18th. “I made a 12-footer for birdie on the 18th hole,” said Lin, who identified his approach play on the par-threes as the strongest part of his game because ‘it is always very close.’
Top finisher scores are noted below. Full results and winners of the Closest-to-the-Pin competition are posted on the MJT website

The next and final MJT Mini Tour event in the province is the MJT Mini Tour at Merry-Hill Golf Club in Breslau on September 19. For more information, or to view the upcoming Ontario MJT Mini Tour schedule, please visit www.maplejt.com.
