Brookfield Country Club hosts hot scoring 12U golfers on MJT Mini Tour
The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada's leading junior golf tour, welcomed a talented field of young golfers aged 12 and under to Brookfield Country Club in Cambridge, ON, on July 6, for another exciting stop on the 2026 MJT Mini Tour series.
Competing across five divisions, young athletes battled for division titles, custom medals, ZEAL Optics sunglasses, and qualifying spots into MJT Mini Tour Nationals at Tsawwassen Springs in British Columbia next month, making Brookfield Country Club one of the final qualifying stops in Ontario.
The MJT Boys 11-12 title was won by Burlington's Jaxon Mitchell, 12, who edged the field by a single stroke after carding a 75. Mitchell credited ‘my parents (dad for caddying)’ for helping him reach the top of the leaderboard and gave the tournament his highest possible praise afterward: "Infinity out of 10. Perfect."
Eleven-year-old Alicia Chen of North York built an early advantage and never looked back, finishing with a 74 to secure the MJT Girls 11-12 title. Her approach was refreshingly honest: ‘Just hit the ball straight. And I still hit it in the trees!’ Asked about the tournament, Chen simply said, "It was great."
The MJT Boys 9-10 division was captured by Roy Qi, 10, of Richmond Hill, after he fired an 84 to hold a comfortable lead over the field. Qi thanked his mother for helping him stay composed throughout the day. "My mom helped me with controlling my emotions," he said. As the finish drew closer, his confidence grew. "I was thinking that I could actually win this thing and I needed to play good to secure it."
A one-shot victory earned Markham's Ella Chan, 10, top honours in the MJT Girls 9-10 division after she posted an 86. Chan's game plan was straightforward: ‘Get on the green.’ She also gave the tournament experience a glowing review, rating it ‘5 stars.’
Mississauga's George Guo, 8, competed in the MJT Boys 8U division and carded a score of 80. Throughout the round, he reminded himself to ‘stay controlled. Stay focused,’ and described his experience on the MJT as ‘very organized, very friendly.’
Top finisher scores and the list of players who have not already qualified are noted below. Full results and winners of the Closest-to-the-Pin competition are posted on the MJT website

The next MJT Mini Tour event in the province is the MJT Mini Tour at Victoria Park Valley Golf Club in Puslinch on July 27. For more information, or to view the upcoming Ontario MJT Mini Tour schedule, please visit www.maplejt.com.
