Canada's #1 Junior Golf Tour

 

Eighteen holes ultimately told the whole story at Lakeridge Links Golf Club, where a stacked field of 19U golfers opened the MJT Order of Merit Series with a competitive first round on August 22 in Brooklin, ON. The tournament was scheduled to continue the following day, but intense rain had other plans. Despite multiple attempts to get round two underway, conditions left the course unplayable and forced the cancellation of the final round, making Saturday’s opening scores the deciding ones.
 

In addition to division titles, players were competing for custom crystal trophies, adidas Golf shoes, final qualifying spots into next month’s MJT National Tour Challenge at Sawmill Golf Course, and valuable MJT Order of Merit points. Points earned throughout the season will help determine qualification for the 28th annual MJT National Championship presented by adidas Golf at Orange Lake Resort this November.

Seventeen-year-old Tyler Shum of Toronto, ON, stayed locked in throughout his round, posting an impressive two-under 70 to claim the MJT Junior Boys title. “I focused on being present and in the moment, which allowed me to make better decisions,” said Shum. He was equally positive about the tournament itself, adding, “I really enjoyed the event, it was run very well, and the pace of play was good.”

Chloe Hassberger went three-under with three birdies and an eagle to capture the MJT Girls 15–19 title with a strong 70. The 16-year-old from Minesing, ON, pointed to her ‘mental game’ as the strongest part of her performance, while an eagle on the seventh hole provided the standout moment of her round.

A four-birdie effort propelled Trent Lakes golfer Brock Campbell to a phenomenal three-under 69 and the MJT Juvenile Boys win. Campbell, 16, kept his approach straightforward, looking to ‘hit as many greens as possible’ throughout the round. He gave the tournament equally high marks afterward: “10/10, unreal staff and very well run all around.”

Five birdies helped 12-year-old Olivia Lin of Markham, ON, card a solid 73 and secure the MJT Girls U15 title. Lin emphasized the importance of resetting after mistakes, saying, “I think mental, mind game are the most important things in golf. I’ve made a ton of bogeys, but getting back to the right track was the most important key to shooting good scores.” Despite Sunday’s heavy rain, she came away enjoying the experience, particularly the opportunity to play alongside familiar faces and receive plenty of tee gifts.

Toronto’s William Chen used four birdies to finish at a steady even-par 72 and clear the MJT Bantam Boys field by two strokes. The 14-year-old’s steady opening round proved decisive when the weather prevented the tournament from continuing on Sunday.

Eleven-year-old Bosco Yang of Aurora, ON, recorded an 80 to take the MJT Peewee Boys title, leaning on his driver as a key part of his game. “I think the strongest part of my game going into this tournament was my driver,” said Yang, who summed up the rain-soaked weekend with some humour: “This event was great. Except, I got very wet.”
