Canada's #1 Junior Golf Tour

 

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada's leading junior golf tour, led a stacked field of 88 talented junior golfers from across Manitoba and beyond to St. Pierre-Jolys, MB, on July 20–21, for the MJT PLYR Series at Maplewood Golf Course, one of six national stops on the 2026 PLYR Series schedule. The waitlisted event continued a season of unprecedented demand for MJT tournaments in the province.
 

With heavy winds testing the field throughout both rounds, players battled in six divisions for Maple Leaf crystal trophies, PLYR gift certificates, and the final qualifying spots into the MJT National Tour Challenge taking place in Ontario later this fall.

One of the tournament's defining moments came in the MJT Juvenile Boys division when Winnipeg's Rylan Gordon, 16, holed his tee shot for an ace on the par-3 18^th hole with an 8 iron during the final round, leading him to victory with rounds of 72 and 71 (143). Gordon cited this specific shot as the standout one that helped him win, saying, "It was the tee ball on 18 for sure to be honest. I was looking for par but was shocked to see it drop for a one." He also praised the host venue, adding, "It was awesome. I enjoyed the course variety making you hit many shots and plan your way around."

 

Oakbank's Brady Comaskey, 17, edged the MJT Junior Boys field by a single stroke after firing excellent rounds of 69 and 72 for a winning total of 141. His opening one-under-par round and six birdies over 36 holes laid the foundation for the victory. Comaskey credited his consistent approach, saying, "I had a pretty steady game plan going into this tournament and was able to stick to that which helped me execute and commit to shots down the stretch."

Eighteen-year-old Brooke Henderson of Portage La Prairie finished atop the MJT Girls 15–19 division with scores of 93 and 85 for a 178 total. She pointed to ‘hitting lots of solid shots and staying in play’ as the key to her performance, while offering simple advice for success: "Play the safe shot. Going OB can affect your score greatly."

Winnipeg's Angelina Sitarz carded 77 and 80 for a 157 total, winning the MJT Girls U15 title. The 14-year-old highlighted a birdie on the eighth hole as the turning point of her tournament, saying, "I had a good putt from off the green on 8 for birdie, which gave me momentum." Sitarz also praised the event, noting, "MJT always run smoothly."

Thirteen-year-old Ty Montour of Oakville secured the MJT Bantam Boys division by a single shot with rounds of 75 and 77 for a 152 total. Montour felt his resilience made the biggest difference throughout the week, explaining, "I think the best part was my mental game. I was able to bounce back after making a bad shot or a bad hole." With regards to the event experience, he added, "10/10, well run and I appreciate the opportunity to play a new course."

Ryan Small of Winnipeg led the MJT Peewee Boys division after shooting 76 and 80 for a 156 total, securing a two-shot winning margin. The 12-year-old kept his focus on a straightforward strategy throughout the tournament: "Keep it in play." After the event, Small summed up his experience simply: "I liked the course."
