Canada's #1 Junior Golf Tour

 

The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada's #1 junior golf tour, returned to Moon Lake Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon, SK, on July 27–28 for the MJT PLYR Series, attracting a waitlisted field of nearly 120 junior golfers from throughout Saskatchewan, neighbouring Alberta, British Columbia, and as far as the Grand Cayman Islands. As the province's final qualifying event of the season, the tournament also served as one of six national stops on the 2026 PLYR Series schedule.
 

Players battled across six divisions for custom Maple Leaf crystal trophies, PLYR gift certificates, and direct qualifying opportunities into the MJT National Tour Challenge this fall in Ontario, capping another competitive stop in Saskatchewan.

Ayden Melsted (16) of Wynyard, SK, delivered one of the finest performances of the 2026 MJT season, opening with a spectacular nine-under-par 63 before closing with a four-under 68 to finish at an incredible 131 in the MJT Juvenile Boys division. Melsted's 13-under total was highlighted by 12 birdies and an eagle over 36 holes. Reflecting on his remarkable week, he said, "63 in round one felt unreal then bogey-free (round two)." He added, "The event was great, 10/10. It was run well and the weather was great."

 

Eighteen-year-old Oliver Matyczuk of Saskatoon, SK, put together rounds of 70 and 72 to finish at 142 and capture the MJT Junior Boys title. His steady performance included eight birdies over 36 holes, highlighted by what he called his turning point: "Made a 40-footer in front of the camera to get some momentum going halfway through the back nine." Matyczuk also praised the tournament experience, saying, "Solid weather, greatly run, had lots of fun. Great tee gift too."

 

Regina's Tayla Perry, 17, followed an opening-round 78 with a strong 73 to win the MJT Girls 15-19 division at 151. Perry credited her short game, explaining, "My short game was really good, and it contributed to my success." She also commended the event, adding, "The event was very well run, and the course was in great shape."

Thirteen-year-old Alyxa Melsted of Wynyard, SK, improved by five strokes on the final day, posting rounds of 81 and 76 (157) to earn top honours in the MJT Girls U15 division. She credited her driving, saying, "My shots off the tee were really good," and summed up the tournament with, "10/10, great event."

 

Melville, SK's Keaton Kreklewich, 14, produced two impressive under-par rounds of 68 and 69 to claim the MJT Bantam Boys at 137. Kreklewich amassed nine birdies and an eagle over the two-day event and pointed to his driving as the key to success: "Coming into the tournament I felt like I was hitting my driver pretty consistent and I'm just happy it was nice and consistent for me this weekend finding fairways." He also noted, "The course was in great shape. The greens were awesome and it was a well-run event."

 

Twelve-year-old Cohen Bridge of Corman Park, SK, recorded matching even-par rounds of 72 to finish at 144 and secure the MJT Peewee Boys title. Bridge tallied 10 birdies and an eagle over 36 holes while sticking to a simple strategy: "Try to play tee to fairway to green and make consistent scores." His defining moment came early in the tournament: "The standout moment was when I drove the green on one and I told myself, 'I can do this.'"
