Canada's #1 Junior Golf Tour

 

It didn’t take long for the opening round of the MJT Edge School Summer Classic to produce something special — twice. In an unprecedented start to the tournament, two players recorded holes-in-one during the opening round at The Canal at Delacour on August 10. Calgary’s 15-year-old Gregory McCoubrey aced the par-three fourth hole before Cochrane’s Lukas Konate, 17, added another ace on the 15th. McCoubrey would go on to finish T7 in the MJT Juvenile Boys division, while Konate placed fourth in the MJT Junior Boys division.

Remarkably, the ace celebrations weren’t limited to Alberta. A third MJT golfer, competing in neighbouring British Columbia, also recorded a hole-in-one during their opening round that same day, making August 10 an especially memorable one on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour.
 

The back-to-back highlights set the tone for the third and final Edge School event on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s 2026 schedule. Nearly 90 golfers aged 19U took on the Delacour layout over August 10–11, competing across six divisions under overcast Alberta skies.
 

Along with custom MJT trophies and quality sponsor prizing, players were chasing qualifying spots into next month’s MJT National Tour Challenge in Ontario on Canada’s #1 Junior Golf Tour.

Calgary’s Cian Thubron, 17, captured the MJT Junior Boys division by a single stroke after firing rounds of 72 and 71 for a 143 total. Thubron followed an even-par opener with a one-under final round and collected nine birdies over the two days. His game plan was simply to ‘go out and have some fun,’ adding afterward, “It was a blast. MJT is an awesome tour for kids wanting to play junior golf tournaments in Canada.”

 

Fifteen-year-old Gabby Lin of Calgary earned the MJT Girls 15-19 division title with rounds of 76 and 78 for a two-day total of 154. Lin pointed to her play coming home as a difference-maker, saying, “My back nine, I was consistent and played well.” Her approach throughout the tournament was equally straightforward: “Play it safe and hit greens and fairways.”

 

Ethan Gibbons of Jasper put together two spectacular rounds under par to claim the MJT Juvenile Boys division at age 16, carding 68 and 69 for a five-under-par total of 137. Nine birdies and an eagle highlighted his 36 holes, with Gibbons crediting his play into the greens: “The strongest part of my game was for sure my wedge game. Sticking them close gave me confidence to go low.” He gave the experience a ‘10/10,’ adding, “This course is super fun and challenging. It makes me think twice before hitting.”

 

A five-stroke improvement in the final round helped Edmonton’s Belanna Bandola secure the MJT Girls U15 division victory. The 14-year-old followed an opening 74 with a stellar three-under 69 to finish at 143, recording seven birdies and an eagle along the way. “I had an eagle, and it definitely helped a lot with my score,” said Bandola, who described her tournament experience as ‘awesome’ and added, “I’m glad to have played this week.”

 

The MJT Bantam Boys division required extra holes after Calgary golfers Hudson Lien, 14, and Niko Tran, 13, finished regulation tied at 148. Lien ultimately prevailed with a birdie on the first playoff hole after rounds of 75 and 73. “The strongest part of my game going into this tournament was approach shots,” he said. “I was consistently hitting the spot I wanted to by the green which gave me confidence and put me in good position for scoring.” A stretch of three consecutive birdies also proved crucial for Lien, who said it “helped me get to the playoff.”

 

Sutton Ulmer, a 12-year-old from Calgary, took home the MJT Peewee Boys division title after posting 76 and an even-par 72 for a 148 total. Seven birdies featured on his scorecards over the two rounds, including one that proved particularly important down the stretch. “I made a birdie putt, and that helped me win,” said Ulmer. “MJT puts on great events. I always look forward to them.”
