Stellar field of 116 in WAGR-ranked MJT Ford Series major sees White and Kostiuk win low overall honours
The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada's leading and most-played junior golf tour, returned to McKenzie Meadows Golf Club in Calgary, AB, from July 6–8 for the annual 2026 MJT Ford Series (PGA of Alberta), one of the elite three-day major championships on the national schedule.
The very popular, waitlisted tournament saw a stellar field of 116 junior golfers compete in six divisions, chasing titles, premium prizes, direct qualification into the MJT National Tour Challenge in Ontario, shortlist consideration for the Jack Newton International Junior Classic in Australia, and the chance to drive away in a brand-new vehicle with the Woodridge Ford Hole-in-One Competition.
Adding to the challenge, the major-ranked championship featured a 36-hole cut, with approximately the top 60% of each age division, excluding the Peewee Boys, advancing to the final round. As the field narrowed entering Wednesday's finale, those who delivered under pressure advanced, providing memorable finishes in each of the six divisions at one of Alberta's marquee junior events.
Two absolutely outstanding opening rounds of 67 and 68 gave 17-year-old Harrison Kiziak of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, the cushion he needed before closing with a 73 to finish at 208 to win the MJT Junior Boys champion’s title. Kiziak filled his scorecard with 13 birdies and two eagles over 54 holes, and praised ‘my family for supporting me non-stop, as well as the support from my coach’ for helping him reach the top. Reflecting on the week, he added, "Great event as always and loved the challenge."
The MJT Girls 15-19 champion’s title was captured in style by Spruce Grove's 16-year-old Shylee Kostiuk, who fired rounds of 75, 77, 73 to also win the Low Overall Girls score honours. Across three rounds she recorded six birdies and two eagles, expressing her gratitude afterwards to ‘my parents for getting me out here and all their words of support.’ As the tournament reached its closing stretch, Kostiuk said she stayed ‘positive and motivated.’
Low Overall Boys score honours went to Calgary's Benson White, 16, whose brilliant scores of three consecutive under-par rounds (71, 68, 67) powered him to victory as MJT Juvenile Boys champion. White's steady play included 14 birdies over the championship, crediting his success to trusting the work he had put into every aspect of his game. "I felt really confident with all aspects of my game coming into the tournament and knew if I just trusted my abilities I would play well," he said, later adding, "It was a great event. The course was in good shape even with all the rain we've had lately."
The MJT Girls U15 champion was 13-year-old Sydney Preston of Calgary, AB, who shot 82, 78, and 79 to finish at 239 and take home the gold. Preston acknowledged ‘my Coach Tom, my mom, and my dad’ for their support throughout the event and praised the tournament experience, saying, "This event was great. MJT and McKenzie Meadows did a great job."
Strong second and final rounds of 70 and 68 vaulted 13-year-old Oscar Gosgnach of Edmonton, AB, into a dominant victory in the MJT Bantam Boys division. Gosgnach tallied 12 birdies over 54 holes, and recognized ‘my parents, my golf coach, Derek Baker, and Titleist’ as being instrumental in his win. His game plan was simple: "I wanted to play all gas, no brakes, which I certainly did on the front 9."
Foothills, AB's 11-year-old Shane Sky finished with his best round of the tournament to claim top honours in the MJT Peewee Boys division (79, 80, 75=at 234). Sky made nine birdies throughout the championship and said his father was a constant source of encouragement. His approach all week was to ‘stay calm and don't get mad when I hit a bad shot,’ a mindset that paid off well over three days of competition.
