Canada's #1 Junior Golf Tour

 

From first swings to tournament pressure, more than 110 young golfers experienced the game in different ways at Chilliwack Golf & Country Club on September 12-13, as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) and Chilliwack Ford brought junior golf development and competition together for a full weekend in Chilliwack, BC.

 

The free Chilliwack Ford Go Golf! Junior Clinic welcomed kids aged six to 12 for an introduction to the fundamentals of the game, while 76 competitive players aged 19U battled through 36 holes over two days in the sixth stop of the 2026 MJT Ford Series.
 

For the tournament field, six division titles were up for grabs alongside custom Maple Leaf crystal trophies and ZEAL sunglasses. Chilliwack Ford also raised the stakes considerably, putting a new Ford SUV on the line for any player who could record a hole-in-one during the event.

Abbotsford’s Lukas Selander-Wendt secured the MJT Junior Boys title with rounds of 73 and 76 for a 149 total. The 18-year-old credited both ends of his game for helping him stay in control, saying, “Off the tee was good, but short game was the best part.” His approach to the 36-hole test was equally straightforward: “Keep it straight off the tee and make some putts.”

 

Consistency off the tee helped 16-year-old Doris Hiu Tung Liu of Vancouver rise to the top of the MJT Girls 15-19 leaderboard. Liu carded rounds of 75 and 77 to finish at 152 and claim the division title, pointing to one club in particular as a difference-maker: “My driver was solid both days.” Her assessment of the weekend was even more decisive, giving the event a ‘10/10, thank you!’

 

A strong opening round of 71 put Tarzan Zhiyang Peng in position to contend, and the 16-year-old Vancouver golfer backed it up with a 73 to claim the MJT Juvenile Boys title and Boys Low Overall honours at 144. Peng collected five birdies over the weekend, but it was his response to a late bogey that stood out most. “I made a bad bogey on 17, then hit a great tee shot on 18. That would be the shot that helped me today,” he said before describing the tournament as a ‘very good event!’
 

Mission, BC’s Avery McAbee put together rounds of 74 and 75 to place atop the MJT Girls U15 podium at 149, earning Girls Low Overall honours in the process. The 13-year-old made six birdies over 36 holes and credited her work on the greens for much of her success. “I think my putting was the strongest part of my game because I made all of my short putts,” she said. McAbee nearly added a spectacular finish on the final hole: “On 18 today, I had a perfect wedge shot, and it hit the pin and almost went in for eagle.”

 

An opening-round 72 gave Ziping Chen an early advantage in the MJT Bantam Boys competition, and the 13-year-old from Surrey, BC, held the field off with a second-round 76 to win with a 148 total. His strategy was built around patience rather than forcing opportunities: “Make pars, play safe.” Chen also had high praise for the weekend, calling the event ‘spectacular’ and ‘well organized.’

 

Hayden Soohyun Lee delivered the MJT Peewee Boys division low, firing rounds of 71 and 70 to win at 141. The 12-year-old from Port Moody, BC, produced nine birdies over two days and finished his run with a one-under-par final round to pull away from the field. “My putting was really good during this tournament. I also felt like my irons were pretty good,” said Lee, who gave the event a perfect ‘10/10.’
