Canada's #1 Junior Golf Tour

 

The road to the MJT National Championship ran through Langley, BC, on August 24–25, bringing more than 80 talented 19U golfers to Belmont Golf Course for two days of competition at the final stop of the Tour’s summer stretch in the province before the calendar turns toward the fall.

Across six divisions, custom crystal trophies and ZEAL Optics sunglasses were on the line, along with valuable MJT Order of Merit points as the season-long standings continue to take shape. The Belmont stop also marks the last event to use towards qualification for the 28th annual Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour National Championship presented by adidas Golf at Orange Lake Resort in Florida this November.

Surrey’s Terry Lee closed with a solid one-under 69 to claim the MJT Junior Boys title at 142. The 17-year-old collected eight birdies over 36 holes, but it was his final up-and-down from 25 yards that stood out most. Lee gave the tournament top marks afterward, calling it a “10/10, great event” and adding that he “always appreciates everyone who made this event possible.”

Seven birdies across two rounds helped 16-year-old Doris Hiu Tung Liu of Vancouver, BC, secure both the MJT Girls 15–19 title and Girls Low Overall honours with two great rounds of 69 and 74 for a 143 total. Liu’s plan was to ‘hit a lot of greens,’ and she finished on a high note when her third shot into the 18th set up a closing birdie.

Keeping things simple paid off for Burnaby’s Jeevyn Lotay, who followed an even-par opening round with a strong one-under 69 to win the MJT Juvenile Boys division at 139 and earn Boys Low Overall honours. ‘Fairways, greens, and don’t make it too difficult,’ was the 16-year-old’s game plan. Lotay also rated the experience ‘10/10,’ noting the “better pace than ever.”

Fourteen-year-old Emma Kim of Surrey, BC, built enough separation over two rounds to take the MJT Girls U15 crown by two strokes, finishing at 150. Faced with tricky areas around Belmont’s greens, Kim deliberately resisted chasing pins: “My strategy on the golf course today was to not get greedy on my approach shots as there are some hidden run offs.” She also praised the tournament experience, saying it was “very well organized” and that she “felt welcome at the start.”

Back-to-back rounds of 75 carried Michael (WenXi) Li of Coquitlam, BC, to the MJT Bantam Boys win with a 150 total. The 14-year-old approached Belmont with a straightforward goal to ‘play it safe,’ while one aggressive moment proved particularly memorable; draining a long birdie putt on the first hole of his final round.

Hayden Soohyun Lee added another highlight to a fantastic 2026 season, firing an opening three-under 67 before a final-round 71 secured the MJT Peewee Boys title at 138. The 12-year-old from Port Moody, BC, poured in nine birdies over 36 holes and adjusted his approach as the final round progressed: “During the first nine holes, I wanted to make birdies, but the last nine, I just wanted to make pars.” Two late birdies proved pivotal. “I made two clutch birdies on 6 and 7 to jump ahead by two,” said Lee, whose tee shot on the par-three seventh nearly went in and provided his most memorable shot of the tournament.
