Waitlisted field delivers playoff finish at MJT’s Junior Worlds Qualifier presented by RINK Golf Academy

Outstanding scores lit up the leaderboard at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) Junior Worlds Qualifier presented by RINK Golf Academy, as a heavily waitlisted field of 112 highly talented players teed it up on Canada’s #1-played junior tour at Morgan Creek Golf Course in Surrey, BC, on April 4–5.

As the first of two events in the MJT RINK Golf Academy Series this season, the tournament carried significant weight, with athletes competing for AJGA Performance Based Entry (PBE) Stars and shortlisted exemptions into the Uswing Mojing Junior World Golf Championship, along with additional qualifying opportunities for the MJT East Coast Junior Championship and Team BC for the Junior America’s Cup. With a deep field and high stakes, the weekend delivered fierce competition.

Standout results were posted in all six divisions, highlighted by a playoff finish and red-hot scoring as players rose to the occasion in pursuit of premium Titleist golf bags and crystal trophies in one of the season’s most competitive early qualifiers.

Riley Moore, 16, of Vancouver, BC, delivered a commanding performance in the MJT Junior Boys division, firing rounds of 70 and 72 (142) to secure a five-shot victory. Moore’s consistency was highlighted by eight birdies over 36 holes, allowing him to pull away from the field. “Feels so good, long time coming,” he said, adding that he kept his “foot on the gas pedal” coming down the stretch.

Elsa Wu, 16, of Vancouver, BC, captured the MJT Girls 15–19 title with back-to-back under-par rounds of 71 and 72 (143), edging out a tightly contested field by a single stroke. “It feels really nice to be able to start with a win for my season. I think I will gain a lot of confidence to keep going for the rest of the season,” said Wu. “I really enjoyed playing here and it was an honour to win.”

Andy (Yul) Koh, 15, of Surrey, BC, claimed the MJT Juvenile Boys division title with fantastic scores of 70 and 72 (142), highlighted by eight birdies and an eagle over two rounds. Koh credited his off-season work, saying he “practiced really hard to improve from last season” and “worked really hard on my putting.” He added, “This event was amazing, it was a 10/10 event. Everyone was super nice and the course was in great condition.”

Quorra Mi, 13, of Burnaby, BC, continued her strong form with a playoff victory in the MJT Girls U15 division after finishing tied for the lead at 150 (73, 77) with Joanna Lin, 11, of Vancouver, BC (75, 75). Mi secured the win with a par on the first playoff hole, marking her second consecutive MJT victory in exceptional fashion.

Daniel Moon, 14, of White Rock, BC, dominated the MJT Bantam Boys division with outstanding rounds of 69 and a tournament-low 66 (135). His six-under-par second round and 13 total birdies powered him to a decisive win. “I feel very good,” said Moon, who also added, “Thank you for supporting me, my parents,” and rated the tournament a “10/10.”

Rounding out the division winners, Hayden Soohyun Lee, 11, of Vancouver, BC, posted rounds of 74 and a solid under-par 71 (145) to claim the MJT Peewee Boys title.
