Historic first for MJT as close to 80 junior golfers compete in inaugural PEI stop
The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s leading and most competitive junior golf circuit, made a historic first with an exciting debut on Prince Edward Island, holding back-to-back Junior and Mini Tour stops at the scenic Countryview Golf Club in Fairview, PE. Between the two stops, nearly 80 athletes teed it up in this successful inaugural event in the province, with talent showcased in the one-day MJT Mini Tour for 12U on June 14 and the two-day MJT Zeal Series on June 14–15. Results from the 12U event are detailed below.
Bright skies and calm conditions set the stage for strong scoring in the Mini Tour stop, where six division titles and qualifying spots in the season-ending MJT Mini Tour National Championship in British Columbia this August were up for grabs.
One of the most thrilling moments of the tournament came in the MJT Boys 9-10 division, where Alex MacDonald of Fall River, NS, and Tristan Breault of Dieppe, NB, both fired impressive rounds of 79 to force a playoff. MacDonald secured the title with a steady par on the first extra hole, capping off a tight battle.
Other strong performances led to division wins for Nazzim Rafih, 11, of Wolfville, NS, in MJT Boys 11-12 (76), Sophie Landry, 11, of Dieppe, NB, in MJT Girls 11-12 (96), Ariyah Sock, 8, from Elsipogtog First Nation, NB, in MJT Girls 9-10 (104), Alex Cormier, 8, from L'Étang-du-nord, QC, in MJT Boys 8U (94), and Niyah Rafih, 8, from Wolfville, NS, in MJT Girls 8U (108).
Quotes from the division winners, top finisher scores, and the list of qualified players are detailed below. Full results are posted on the MJT website
