Race to Nationals tightens as Dungca fires 67, divisions deadlock in MJT Mini Tour at Kildonan Park
A rising tide of young talent rolled through Kildonan Park Golf Course in Winnipeg, MB, on June 28, as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s leading junior tour, hosted its latest Mini Tour stop in the province. A field of 12U athletes competed in five divisions for titles and qualifying spots in the MJT Mini Tour National Championship at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Course in British Columbia later this summer. With record numbers being seen across Manitoba this season, the event underscored the province’s surging momentum with new growth in the 12U field, along with the continued growth of junior golf nationwide.
A thrilling finish in the MJT Boys 11–12 division saw Winnipeg’s Ethan Sitarz, age 10, come out on top in a deadlock with 12-year-old Aaron Hill. After both players posted tied rounds of 80, the countback tiebreaker tipped in Sitarz’s favour to seal the victory.
Other exciting division victories went to Ronee Clare Dungca, 9, of Winnipeg, MB, in the MJT Girls 9-10 division due to a standout 5-under 67, Sadie Blazeiko, 12, of Winnipeg, MB, in MJT Girls 11-12 (81), Noah Lafreniere, 10, from St. Pierre-Jolys, MB, in MJT Boys 9-10 (79), and Easton Faskerti, 8, from Stonewall, MB, in MJT Boys 8U (88).
