Generations collide at Joanne Goulet as MJT legacy continues

A picture-perfect summer day set the stage at Joanne Goulet Golf Course in Regina, SK, as the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s most played junior tour, hosted the latest stop on the MJT Mini Tour. A strong field of 12U athletes competed across five divisions, all vying for titles and qualifying spots in the MJT Mini Tour National Championship at Tsawwassen Springs Golf Course later this summer.

The event showcased the lasting impact and deep-rooted community of the MJT, with a heartwarming full-circle moment as former tour player, Jordan Johns, returned as a caddie for his son, Luka, who finished second in the MJT Boys 8U division in his debut. Now marking their 20th season at the helm of the Saskatchewan circuit, MJT Tournament Director Jeff Chambers and his wife Carrie continue to foster the same spirit of connection, mentorship, and passion that has defined the MJT for generations.

Exciting division wins were recorded by Jace Fehr, 11, of Hague, SK, in MJT Boys 11-12 (74), Alyxa Melsted, 12, of Wynyard, SK, in MJT Girls 11-12 (66), Darrell Yuzicappi, 10, from Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation, SK, in MJT Boys 9-10 (71), Makinlee McCrystal, 10, from Regina, SK, in MJT Girls 9-10 (92), and     Aleksander Sierzycki, 7, of Prince Albert, SK, in MJT Boys 8U (88).

Quotes from the division winners, top finisher scores and the list of qualified players are detailed below. Full results are posted on the MJT website here.

The next MJT Mini Tour event in the province is at Moon Lake Golf and Country Club, in Saskatoon, on July 27. For more information on the MJT and upcoming events, visit www.maplejt.com.
