MJT Mini Tour in Saskatchewan opens with major qualifying event at Estevan Woodlawn

 
The highly anticipated Saskatchewan season-opener of the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) Mini Tour teed off at Estevan Woodlawn Golf Club this past weekend, drawing a talented field of 12U players ready to launch their seasons. As Canada’s number one-played junior golf tour, MJT set the stage for high-level competition with division titles and four coveted international qualifiers on the line.
 
Young athletes competed not only for a place on the podium, but also for exclusive invitations to some of the world’s most prestigious junior golf events, including the FCG Callaway World Championship, the Uswing Mojing Junior World Golf Championship, the World Stars Junior Championship, and the MJT Mini Tour National Championship in British Columbia.

Exciting division wins were recorded by Harrison Coulthard, 12, of Regina, SK, in MJT Boys 11-12 (90), Alyxa Melsted, 12, of Wynyard, SK, in MJT Girls 11-12 (79), Hudson Deibert, 10, from Regina, SK, in MJT Boys 9-10 (71), Mae McTavish, 9, from Canora, SK, in MJT Girls 9-10 (73), and Jameson Fox, 8, of Herbert, SK, in MJT Boys 8U (122).

In the MJT Boys 11–12 division, 12-year-old Harrison Coulthard of Regina, SK, claimed the title with a round of 90. Focused on steady improvement, Coulthard shared, “My goal is to always try to beat my previous score and have fun.” He also praised the experience, noting the “nice course, good prizes, and good staff.” A great start to the season for the young competitor with a positive outlook.

Twelve-year-old Alyxa Melsted of Wynyard, SK, came out strong in the MJT Girls 11–12 division, firing a 79, highlighted by five birdies and an eagle, to take the win. Her preparation paid off after making a practice round ahead of the event, which she said helped her feel more confident heading into competition. “I love playing this course and I love playing with MJT, it’s 10/10,” she shared after the round — a sentiment matched by her performance.

In the MJT Boys 9–10 division, Hudson Deibert, 10, of Regina, SK, impressed with a one-under-par 71, highlighted by three birdies and an eagle, securing the win. Deibert credited his offseason training, saying, “I prepared for this season by doing my stack system and getting my numbers up.” With big goals ahead — “to win the Nationals and win a Junior Tour” — Deibert is clearly off to a strong and focused start.

Mae McTavish, 9, of Canora, SK, delivered an impressive performance in the MJT Girls 9–10 division, carding a 73 including four birdies and an eagle to win with a commanding lead after 18 holes. Despite limited course access early in the season, McTavish stayed sharp by practicing on the driving range until her local course opened. Focused and determined, she shared her goal for the season: “Play my best and try to beat my new record.

Eight-year-old Jameson Fox of Herbert, SK, earned the win in the MJT Boys 8U division with a score of 122 and a big smile to match. Fox shared that he stayed sharp over the winter by “golfing in my garage” and taking lessons with Coach Jeff to build his game. His goal for the season? “Get the ball on the green.”
