MJT Elite Series stop fields hot talent in MJT CWENCH Classic at Bond Head
Another full field of 89 juniors on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT), Canada’s leading junior golf tour, teed off in the MJT CWENCH Classic at the stunning Club at Bond Head in Beeton, ON, from August 9–11. This WAGR-ranked event on the MJT Elite Series saw athletes battle over 54 holes of championship golf on a challenging layout in pristine condition. Players competed in five divisions for champion titles, premium Titleist golf bags, and a spot in next month’s MJT National Tour Challenge. Throughout three days of intense heat and humidity, CWENCH Hydration, the official hydration drink of the MJT, kept players “CWENCHED” and ready to perform at their peak.
The three days of top-tier play culminated in division victories and Low Overall Honours for Boys and Girls respectively for Kian Oelofse, 17, of Fonthill, ON, in MJT Junior Boys, who finished the tournament at six-under-par (70-69-71=210) and Rainah Bajwa, 16, of Oakville, ON, in MJT Girls 15-19 (85-79-78=242). Other impressive performances resulting in division wins were carded by David Kowalewski, 16, from Barrie, ON, in MJT Juvenile Boys (217), Isla Elbe, 14, from Oakville, ON, in MJT Girls U15 (243), and William Chen, 13, from Toronto, ON, in MJT Bantam Boys (219).

Seventeen-year-old Kian Oelofse, from Fonthill, ON, fired three straight under-par rounds of 70, 69, and 71 (210) to claim the MJT Junior and Low Overall Boy titles in style. “(The win) feels good. Played great golf and managed to be pretty consistent,” he said, adding that the most enjoyable part was ‘playing with my friends and being able to compete with them.’

Oakville, ON’s Rainah Bajwa, 16, put together progressively stronger rounds of 85, 79, and 78 (242) to capture the MJT Girls 15-19 and Low Overall Girl titles. “Winning a tournament feels great. This was my first time winning an MJT Tournament. I’m glad I performed well all three days,” she shared. Her favourite part? “The girls I have the privilege of playing with are kind, true, and great playing partners. I love engaging in conversation with my playmates and having friendly competition.”

Sixteen-year-old David Kowalewski of Barrie, ON, secured the MJT Juvenile Boys title with rounds of 72, 74, and 71 (217), finishing just one shot ahead of his nearest competitor. “It feels amazing to know that all of the work I’ve been putting in is finally starting to pay off,” he said. He added, “MJT events have a very welcoming atmosphere and the setup is very organized. The prizes are also very generous, as well as the tee gifts.”

With solid scores of 79, 80, and 84 (243), Isla Elbe, 14, from Oakville, ON, edged out victory in the MJT Girls U15 division by one stroke. When asked how it felt, she kept it simple: “Very good.” Her favourite part of the tour? “The people.”

Toronto’s William Chen, 13, closed with a fantastic 69 after earlier rounds of 72 and 78 (219) to take the MJT Bantam Boys division in a nail-biting finish that came down to a single shot. “I was a bit nervous, but I calmed down and made a par,” he said of his thoughts down the stretch, adding, “I like the prizes.”
